Before joining Texas Tech in 2004, Dr. Young was professor of Psychology and of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neurosciences at Wayne State University, where she served as associate dean for research and graduate programs in the College of Science. She is a former recipient of a NIDA Research Scientist Development Award, and her research and teaching focuses on behavioral pharmacology and applied cognitive psychology. Alice Young, Ph.D. is Associate Vice President for Research-Responsible Research in the Office of Research & Innovation and professor of psychological sciences at Texas Tech University and of pharmacology and neuroscience at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Young works with TTU Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and all TTU research compliance offices to develop programs in responsible conduct of research that support TTU research and scholarship.
Dr. Young received a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She earned a doctorate in experimental psychology from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and received postdoctoral training in pharmacology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Amber McCord serves as the Graphic Designer for the Office of Research Development & Communications in the Office of Research & Innovation. She offers consultation for faculty members across campus to improve and create graphics for grant proposals and publication manuscripts. Amber also works in the Communication Training Center (CTC), which helps faculty and graduate students improve their visual and verbal communication skills through regular workshops.
Amber graduated from Texas Tech University with a Ph.D. in Mass Communication. Prior to seeking a graduate education, she worked as a production coordinator, creating multimedia-based curriculum. She also worked in sales and customer relations.

Amy Cook is an Assistant Vice President for Research in the Office of Research and Innovation. She currently manages the Office of Research Services and administers special projects for the OR&I Division. Amy completed her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Texas Tech University in 1998 and received her Juris Doctor in 2002 from Texas Tech University School of Law. After a successful first career as a prosecutor and private practice attorney, Amy joined her alma mater in 2012. She is inspired daily by her husband and two sons.

Amy Mire serves as Interim Executive Associate to the Vice President for Research & Innovation in the Office of Research & Innovation. She provides administrative support for the Associate Vice Presidents for Research as well as others within the department.
Amy joined the OR&I in September 2015 after working at the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library for five years. Prior to joining Texas Tech in 2010, Amy was a stay-at-home mother and substitute teacher. She earned her undergraduate degree in Anthropology with a minor in History from North Texas State University.

April Ortegon is a senior analyst for the Human Research Protection Program. She will educate the research community on IRB development, ethical conduct of human subject research, and federal regulations that govern the IRB. April will assist with pre and post reviews of the IRB.
Originally from El Paso, Texas, April received both her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Sociology and a Master of Arts in Sociology from Texas Tech University. Her research interests were secondary immigrant students and educational outcomes.
Previously, April worked as an analyst in Undergraduate Admissions for Texas Tech University. April has a passion for teaching and serving others, this is noted in her experience as an instructor for Women and Gender Studies, a teaching assistant for the Department of Sociology, and a tutor for the Marsha Sharp Center. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, volunteering for her church, and spending time with her fiancé and family.

Aruna Gamanayake is a Programmer Analyst II under Director of Programming for the Office of Research & Innovation. In this position, he is responsible for handling support requests for the institution web development and reporting applications. In addition he is responsible for ad hoc requests on generating comprehensive research reports for the university.
He earned his Masters in Computer and Information Science from Brooklyn College, City University of New York in 2012.
Prior to joining Texas Tech, Aruna worked as a Senior Developer for State Government projects and private sector organizations.

Cameron Smith is the TTUS Commercialization Director of the Office of Research Commercialization, which serves Texas Tech University, Angelo State University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Centers, and the TTUHSC Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso. As the director of the office, Cameron oversees the intellectual property portfolio, actively managing the filing and prosecution of patent applications through outside counsel. He also approves and executes new license agreements as well as manages both the IP and office budgets. He is a licensed Patent Attorney with experience in intellectual property asset protection and management and is a Certified Licensing Professional with technology transfer and licensing expertise.
Cameron works to guide System inventors to both patentable and marketable aspects of their research in both the life sciences and engineering. With experience in private practice as well as in-house, he is a valuable resource for faculty and students with questions about the patenting and commercialization process. The focus of Cameron's work revolves around bridging the gap between industry and academia by first identifying and protecting intellectual assets within the System, and then negotiating and executing commercialization agreements to bring the invention to market, ultimately generating revenue back the inventor and the institution.
Cameron frequently guest lectures to classes across the TTU System. He has also developed and teaches a Patents, Innovation, and Science Policy semester-long course within the Texas Tech Honors College, as well as serves in an adjunct role to the Masters in Biotechnology program at the TTU Health Sciences Center, teaching the cohort on Patent Law and Entrepreneurship.

Carrie Romo joined Texas Tech University in April, 2014 and currently serves as Director for the Office of Research Development & Communications (ORDC) in the Office of Research & Innovation. In this role she coordinates with faculty in developing large, multi-disciplinary proposals submitted to federal agencies, assists individual researchers restructure and refine their proposals for submission or resubmission, and works with the TTU federal affairs team to help promote TTU researchers and strengths. Carrie also works with regional, state and national partners to further develop collaborative teams to advance and achieve the strategic goals championed by the university.
In January, 2015 through May, 2016, Carrie was appointed the Interim Director of the new Texas Tech University Innovation Hub at Research Park, which served as a dual role with her ORD position. Carrie worked with TTU administration, the Research Park Advisory Board, TTU entrepreneurial offices and the construction team and to grow the tenant base, develop programming and events for the park, and act as a liaison between administration, tenants and the construction team.
Carrie received her undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, in 1998 from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She worked in independent and hospital laboratories in Austin and Lubbock as a Medical Technologist until starting law school in 2002. Carrie received her Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University School of Law in May of 2005 and was an associate attorney at Timberlake, Weaver and Sharp, P.C. until April, 2014. Her law practice primarily included real property title exams, estate and probate administration, and transactional document preparation.

Sharlaree "Charlie" Porter's functions include support in pursuit of fulfilling Global Laboratory for Energy Asset Management and Manufacturing (GLEAMM) objectives, cultivating strategic partnering opportunities and nurturing West Texas economic development collaborations with organizations like the High Ground of Texas and its member economic development corporations.

Cindy Thompson is the program manager in the Office of Research Commercialization. As an intellectual property analyst, she maintains the electronic files for patent applications, issued patents, technologies and license agreements. Her responsibilities also include management of contracts and intellectual property.
She communicates with outside counsel, supporting the Assistant Managing Director and Intellectual Property Manager with the patent portfolio's which include tracking details of the patent prosecution. Additionally, she is involved with established license agreements for compliance related to royalties.
Cindy attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins before moving to Southern California for many years. While working as a legal technician for the FDIC, she completed her contracts courses at Irvine University College of Law. She was the executive paralegal to the COO of Lennar Corporation in Aliso Viejo, California for 12 years before returning to her native state of Colorado.
She is happy to be in Lubbock where she looks forward to earning the title of Red Raider Alum!

Colette Solpietro serves as the Senior Unit Assistant Director for the Office of Research Services. In this position she manages the Cayuse Research Suite of products including Cayuse 424 and Cayuse SP. Additionally, she manages ORS website, ORS training, and manages the proposal and award data, including all standard and ad hoc reporting.
Colette began working for the Office of Research Services in 1995. Colette has a B.S. in Psychology and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston and is a Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator.

Dr. Argenis Bilbao is the Senior Director of GLEAMM. He has valuable experience in the areas of power systems, renewable energy sources, microgrids, power semiconductor devices, power electronics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML). He worked at the Sandia National Laboratory on data acquisition software for commercial scale wind turbine controls. In the area of power semiconductor devices, he has performed extensive research on ultra-high voltage silicon carbide power MOSFETs and IGBTs for the Department of Defense and Wolfspeed.
