Carolanne Brannan

Carolanne spent 5 years being Director of Patient Care within St Clare Hospice and has returned, from the birth of her second daughter, in April 2023 to her current role as Director of Clinical Integration. Carolanne's vision for St Clare and palliative care is that each person who needs palliative care and hospice support are given that by a hospice that works in partnership within a system of care providers who deliver care proactively and seamlessly supporting patients and their families Carolanne has worked in many areas within healthcare delivery but has mainly specialised in oncology and palliative care in clinical roles and continued in to leadership, education, Quality Improvement and Service Redesign with a real interest in the strategic aspects of care delivery Carolanne has much experience in strategic growth of hospice services and has a keen interest in broadening hospice access for patients and service users, ensuring that we minimise any inequities within access of hospice care. Dame Bertschinger DBE DL

Dame Eleanor Laing

She was honoured as Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2018 in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Before becoming Deputy Speaker, Eleanor was a member of the influential Political and Constitutional Reform Select Committee and Chairman of the 1922 Home and Constitutional Affairs Committee. Always deeply involved in parliamentary reform, she was a member of the controversial Joint Committee on the House of Lords, the Joint Committee on Parliamentary Privilege and the Speaker's Committee on the Electoral Commission. She has also held a variety of opposition spokesman roles - as Shadow Minister for Constitutional Affairs, Shadow Minister for Equality, Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, Shadow Education Minister and Opposition Whip. A graduate of Edinburgh University, where she was the first woman to be elected President of the Union, Eleanor worked as a solicitor in Edinburgh, in the City and in industry. She was until recently Chairman of the Society of Conservative Lawyers. Dr Syed Qamar Abbas

Qamar graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan in 1993 after which he moved to the United Kingdom in 1995 to pursue higher training. His initial plan was to train in Cardiology but in 1999, he recognised his passion for holistic and palliative care for patients. Dr Abbas started as a doctor at St Clare Hospice when its Inpatient Unit started in January 2000. He was appointed as Deputy Medical Director in 2006 and he has also been working as a Consultant at the hospice since 2013. In November 2018 Qamar was appointed as the Medical Director of St Clare Hospice. Dr Abbas is also an Honorary Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow; a Senior Clinical Tutor, School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge; an Associate Lecturer, School of Medicine at Anglia Ruskin University; a Visiting Honorary Lecturer at Muhammad Medical College in Pakistan and a member of Race Equity Committee, Association for Palliative Medicine of Great Britain and Ireland. Qamar is also a Trainer for junior doctors and an appraiser for the General Medical Council. Qamar has postgraduate qualifications in Palliative Medicine, Medical Ethics and Medical Education. He has published scientific papers and reviews and written chapters for several books. He has participated in regional and national committees for the development of Palliative Medicine and has contributed to the formulation of guidelines in palliative care.

As Director of Income Generation & Communications Rosie is responsible for our fundraising, lottery, retail activities and our hospice wide communications and marketing. She joined St Clare because it was the perfect opportunity to bring together her fundraising skills with her passion for healthcare and supporting people to live well. Rosie joined St Clare Hospice in January 2020, having previously worked for almost 10 years in fundraising for both large and small charities. Prior to working in fundraising, Rosie had a career in retail management, as well as experience in working within the NHS. Coming from a Director of Development role at Villiers Park Educational Trust, Rosie has broad experience across a range of fundraising disciplines as well as organisational stakeholder management. Her specialism is in Philanthropy, having developed a deep understanding of major donor and trust fundraising at Alzheimer's Research UK. Rosie is passionate about providing excellent care for everyone whom St Clare Hospice serves, whatever point they are at in their journey. Rosie focuses on building meaningful relationships with supporters of the charity, ensuring that everybody feels genuinely valued and empowered to support St Clare, knowing the difference that their help makes to their Hospice and local people in the community.

Sarah Thompson

Sarah joined St Clare in May 2017 with 11 years experience in the hospice sector. Prior to St Clare, Sarah was part of the Senior Management Team at St Joseph's Hospice in Hackney for four years and before that, she was Director of Fundraising at the Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire for seven years. She has significant experience in strategic development and growth of hospices, community engagement work (including responsibility for the award-winning Compassionate Neighbours project in East London) and securing significant income. She completed an MSc in Voluntary Sector Management, graduating with distinction in 2013. She is also a very proud mum of two young sons.

Sheona Evangeli

Sheona graduated from South Bank University with a BSc (Hons) in District Nursing and qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1996. Sheona practiced District Nursing in Barking and Dagenham and then West Essex before managing multi-disciplinary teams in both West Essex and Tower Hamlets. Before joining St Clare, Sheona's managed a multidisciplinary community team at Farleigh Hospice. She has also worked with Macmillan, NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups, private specialist care providers and care homes. Sheona has significant experience in operational management, service development, clinical governance and quality improvement. She is currently working towards a Masters degree in Voluntary Sector Management at City, University of London, which she finds extremely motivating and she is keen to put her knowledge into practice at St Clare. Sheona is passionate about supporting the teams at St Clare to continue to deliver excellent care to patients and their families, and is looking for opportunities to improve and expand our services.
