Carol Jaeger has a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering option, from Queen's University at Kingston, and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from UBC. She has been a faculty member in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 2003, and has been a Senior Instructor since 2008. Carol teaches a variety of courses at the second and third year level, including circuit analysis, electronics, electromagnetics, and electromechanics.

James Olson, PhD, P.Eng., is the dean of the UBC Faculty of Applied Science and a professor of Mechanical Engineering. Prior to these roles, he served as the associate dean of research and industry partnerships, the director of UBC's Pulp and Paper Centre, and he is an internationally recognized forest products researcher. Dean Olson has been actively involved in the transformation of the forest sector into a vibrant, diversified bio-products industry. He currently leads a research group focused on the development of novel biomaterials. A Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineers, Dean Olson's research has been the recipient of two NSERC Synergy Awards, the 2008 Lieutenant Governor's Award for Innovation, the 2009 Fundamental Research Committee's Van den Akker Gold medal and he has earned several best paper awards.
James Olson, PhD, P.Eng., is the dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of British Columbia.
Olson has served as the director of the Pulp and Paper Centre and as interim director of the Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems at UBC. He was also associate dean of research and industry partnerships at the Faculty of Applied Science from 2014 until his appointment as interim dean in June 2017. He began his five-year term as dean on March 1, 2018.
Olson has played an instrumental role in the recent expansion of UBC's engineering program, including the formation of the new School of Biomedical Engineering and the growth of various diversity, outreach, research and study programs. He has also created and led two research consortiums involving multiple companies and universities. These groups are working not only to develop innovative technologies and high-value energy products, but also to train highly qualified personnel and strengthen partnerships with industry, government and academic institutions.
A Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineers, Dean Olson has received two NSERC Synergy Awards, two NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplements, an APEGBC Meritorious Achievement Award, the BC Lieutenant Governor's Innovation Award, the 2009 Fundamental Research Committee's Van den Akker Gold medal and nine best paper awards. He has supervised dozens of graduate and undergraduate students and has co-authored more than 100 refereed journal articles.
Olson holds a BASc in engineering physics and a PhD in chemical engineering from UBC.

Sheryl Staub-French, PhD, PEng, is a Professor of Civil Engineering and Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) at the University of British Columbia (UBC). As Associate Dean, she helps to lead the engineering outreach program Geering Up!, which promotes engineering and STEM skills to kids and youth, parents and teachers. She also leads EDI initiatives in the Faculty to enhance the diverse representation of students in engineering, and to cultivate inclusive spaces and experiences that support all members of the community. She is also Director of the BIM TOPiCS Lab where she leads research to support the digital delivery of sustainable building projects through the collaborative use of building information modeling (BIM). She has contributed more than 100 papers in leading journals and conferences on BIM and topics related to the technological and organizational issues associated with its implementation.

Walter began his career working with Ballard Power Systems, British Gas Investments Canada, and universities more than twenty years ago. He was a founder and Board member for General Hydrogen Corporation, and the Institute for Breakthrough Energy Technologies in Vancouver. He worked at the NRC's Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation, and at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Germany.
At UBC, Walter leads the Natural Gas Futures research consortium, the Integrated Energy Testbed, and the Transportation Futures Group supported by the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association, the Academic Council for the Global Alliance on Powerfuels, and the Climate Change Advisory Board for Toronto Dominion Insurance.
Walter has served as director for the Clean Energy Research Centre and as a Senior Advisor to UBC's President and Vice-Chancellor. He is currently the Associate Dean of Research and Industrial Partnerships in the Faculty of Applied Science. Most recently, he co-chaired UBC's Climate Emergency Taskforce.

Dr. Hughes brings extensive experience to the role, most recently serving as the Director of the Nucleic Acid Memory Institute, a Professor in the Micron School of Materials Science & and Engineering, a Fellow of the College of Innovation + Design and a Fellow of the Institute for Inclusive & Transformative Scholarship (IFITS) at Boise State University.
Dr. Hughes' current research involves developing technologies made from DNA, using the structural integrity, information density and programmability of life's most basic material. Such technologies range from engineering low-cost liquid computers that perform early-stage diagnostics of hard-to-detect diseases, to sorting extremely dense and stable information for archival applications. Dr. Hughes is recognized as an international leader in DNA nanotechnology and has received numerous recognitions for leadership and scholarship, including the W.M. Keck Foundation Award and the NIH Quantitative Research Development K25 Career Award.
Known as a champion of the field of engineering, Dr. Hughes' emerging vision for the School of Engineering will be to model civil discourse that promotes respect and compassion while creating an inclusive environment that provides opportunities for upward mobility and generates original work that confronts locally relevant and globally significant problems. He also looks to prioritize competitive workforce development that prepares the next generation of engineers.
