She's a champion for professionals transitioning to consulting and advises companies on building flexible, project-based teams that add immediate value, as discussed in her most recent book: Work, Your Way: Reinvent yourself, Create the Life you want and Thrive as a Consultant.
Lisa Hufford founded Simplicity Consulting in 2006 as a result of her shift from the corporate world to the world of consulting. When her second child was born, she was a Director at Microsoft and though she loved the role and responsibilities, she needed to take control of her schedule, travel less and have more time for her young children and family. Lisa wanted to focus only on high-impact work, so she began consulting to Microsoft, her former employer. Not long after her transition to consulting, she was approached by other people with similar stories - corporate professionals who also wanted more control, flexibility, and the chance to use their skills for work that mattered. Lisa began teaching people how to make the transition from a traditional FTE job to a consultant.
At the same time, Lisa identified an emerging trend in the workforce: companies that were looking to reduce cost and risk, often by slashing talent and resources vital to the business's success - but they still needed experts to get work done. She saw an opportunity to provide companies with a cost-effective, low-risk way to tap exceptional talent while also providing a transition for more corporate professionals looking to do what she had done: be in control and have more choices in their lives. Simplicity took off, growing organically from word-of-mouth referrals.
