Curtis Nolan, president of the Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) Board of Directors, delivered a poignant message as he spoke to high school scholarship winners at the 2023 Annual Meeting in Benson.

From humble beginnings growing up in Pittsburg, PA, Dave Kelso has made the most of opportunities in education and community service.
Director Kelso represents District 13 on the Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative governing board, serving the interests of members in Hereford, southeast Sierra Vista and the southern portion of Highway 83.
His impressive career at the U.S. Army Electronic Proving Ground on Fort Huachuca and his more recent service as the president of Border Animal Rescue - which aids abandoned pets and local humane shelters - represents a near perfect mix for the SSVEC board. Kelso combines the technical expertise needed to grasp the challenges facing today's electric cooperatives with a passion for public service.
"I felt that my experience, education, and being raised in Pittsburgh, in a blue-collar household, would allow me to both understand and serve the members of my district and as such make the best possible decisions in support of our members," Kelso said in a recent interview.

Graduating from Tombstone High School in 1958, Russ McNeill enlisted directly in the U.S. Army. For the next three years, he worked as a soldier, and specialized as a microwave and telephone carrier technician, serving two years in Germany.
That experience helped him land a job when he left the military, continuing to work as a microwave radio tech, then a supervisor and eventually a central office manager.
Along the way, while working fulltime, McNeill started to attend Regis University where he graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in technical management, with a minor in Sociology.
"I went to college part time while working full time and it just took time to obtain the required hours for graduation," McNeill said in a recent interview.
