The Merchant Navy Welfare Board, acting on behalf of the Consultative Committee, is happy to answer queries about eligibility and the nomination process... In 2005, Rev Mike Keulemans had an idea for an award that recognised seafarers who had made a significant contribution to the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets. The award was to become known as the "Merchant Navy Medal".
