Here at the Addiscombe, Woodside & Shirley Leisure Gardens we have a proud tradition of plots being passed down the generations. Families such as these know the benefit of tending to the same piece of ground that your father and his father did before them. They know their soil. They understand the premise that we only look after our allotments temporarily, keeping them in good order, in trust, to eventually pass them on to the next person... The Addiscombe, Woodside and Shirley Leisure Gardens Limited is the oldest privately managed allotment society in the country, having been on this site in the London Borough of Croydon since 1921. We have nearly 400 plots, a Trading Hut, Canteen, Hall and Wildlife Field... Forward two years to 1925 in which the weather was completely opposite to 1923, by being very dry, that year the Annual Show was opened by the Mayor of Croydon. The Social Club thrived, holding whist drives and monthly dances. The Allotment Society continued to develop thanks..
