GREENWOOD ACADEMIES TRUST - Key Persons

Andy Gannon

Job Titles:
  • Corporate Affairs Director
I bring to GAT almost thirty years' experience in just about every part of the education world you can imagine. I have been a teacher so I understand the ‘day job', I've worked in further education so I know ‘what comes next', I've worked in policy so I know the constraints of the system and I've advised leaders and trustees so I get the strategic picture. But most of all, I really care about making sure that all of our effort is directed towards making sure our young people get an education which makes them confident and gives them the skills and knowledge to thrive in the slightly mad world we all live in. For me, that means that everything I do should be designed and delivered so that it enables our academy leaders to focus on the children in their care rather than the needs of some arcane process.

Andy Walker

After graduating from the University of Leeds, Andy qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PwC. Since qualification, he worked in finance and commercial roles for a number of companies, including Experian and Rolls-Royce, where he spent ten years of his career. He is currently Finance Director of an engineering company based near Birmingham. Andy is from Derby and, having graduated and qualified in Leeds, he returned to Derby where he now lives with his two young sons.

I have also led education performance in a Local Authority and have therefore been responsible for strategic school improvement in primary, secondary and special phases, early years providers, the virtual school and other statutory responsibilities that LAs have in terms of education. So, a varied portfolio, backed up with an NPQH and a MBA in Educational Leadership, that means I have significant experience in school improvement and a deep knowledge of the education landscape. I particularly enjoy building high performing teams and like a bit of education policy geekness!

Wayne Norrie - CEO

Job Titles:
  • Chief Executive Officer
Our 37 academies serve many varied communities across the East Midlands, stretching from Mansfield in the north to Northampton in the south, from Leicester in the west to Skegness in the east. Across our primary, secondary and special academies, we serve over 18,000 pupils and the communities in which they live. We are proud to work with a talented army of over 3,000 colleagues who get up every day determined to make a difference in those young people's lives. What makes us just a little bit different is our belief that education is not a ‘one size fits all' business. We believe that the best decision for pupils in Peterborough may not be the same best decision for pupils in Nottingham, and we empower our academy leaders to have a level of autonomy accordingly. However, that does not mean that we don't work together - where it is right for all our pupils that we do, we collaborate and use the benefits of everyone's knowledge to make things better for everyone. Wayne Norrie FCCT is a qualified teacher with 23 years of senior leadership experience in the education sector holding roles such as Headship, Senior LA Officer, Department of Education (DfE) Consultant and Senior His Majesty's Inspector for Ofsted. Wayne was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Greenwood Academies Trust (GAT) in 2016, the 11 th largest multi-academy trust in the Country. GAT currently has 37 academies in the East Midlands and East of England: 25 Primaries, 9 Secondaries, and 3 Special all located in areas with the highest levels of social deprivation in the country with many academies in the Trust having more than 50% of children eligible for Free School Meals. More recently, Wayne has been asked by the DfE to advise other Multi-Academy Trusts on leadership issues and safeguarding. In February 2022 Wayne was asked to become the Interim CEO, alongside his role at GAT, of the troubled Evolve Trust in Mansfield.
