2016 - Barry Springer, Mountain View Electric Association board vice president, has been awarded the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's (NRECA) top Director Gold credential. Mr. Springer is amongst the first group of recipients in the nation to receive this distinction.

I am Errol Hertneky, your present director from District 3. I have lived in this District on the same farm since I was born-and before it had electricity. I graduated from Calhan School and then from Colorado State University with a degree in Ag Business. I next got to spend the next 6 years with the Colorado National Guard, and during that time married my wife Bette, and our daughter Dana, and son Travis were born. I then went back to UCCS for an additional degree in accounting. This has proved invaluable since joining the board at MVEA as it helps understand the differences between utilities that are driven by profit, and a co-op which is owned by the members, and where service is the motivating force.

Jim retired after 30 years in the US Air Force, serving as a research electrical engineer, pilot, operational planner, and strategic programmer. He served as an operations group commander and vice wing commander. He is a retired small business owner as a Home Energy Rater and Professional Building Energy Analyst, providing consulting to builders and architects on energy-efficient building construction, and residential and commercial energy audits.
Jim holds 3 Masters degrees in electrical engineering, Military Art and Science, and National Security Strategy. He is a Senior Executive Fellow from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.
Jim and his wife Elise have two boys attending Palmer Ridge High School. They live in a net-zero energy house they designed west of Monument.
Jim is a volunteer on the Building Committee of the Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, providing energy efficiency construction guidance. He is a volunteer member of the Southeastern Colorado Renewable Energy Society providing public education seminars on energy efficiency and teaching renewable energy to 4th through 12th-grade science classes.
I am currently retired and am the former owner-operator of the Limon Comfort Inn in Limon and the Sterling Comfort Inn in Sterling, Colorado. From 1985 to 2001, I owned and operated the Fireside Junction Restaurant in Limon. Prior to having the restaurant, I was employed as general manager of Rip Griffin's Truck Stop in Limon. I was a high school math teacher and coach in Freeport, Illinois. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from St. Joseph's College, Rensselaer, Indiana. My wife, Georgann, and I have resided in Limon since 1980. We have five children and 5 grandchildren.

Kevin retired in June 2021, from a 31-year career with Colorado Springs Utilities Water Treatment, his latter 17 years as Operations Supervisor. During his tenure with CSU, he served in wastewater and water departments attaining State Class A License Certifications via course work through University's of Colorado and Sacramento. Kevin is a Colorado native. Upon graduation from Ellicott High School, Kevin operated his family's farm until pursuing his career with CSU. Kevin and his wife, Becky, of 37 years, reside in Ellicott. They have grown twin daughters, and 5 grandchildren.
Kevin has been a member of the MVEA Board of Directors since 2018. Kevin serves as Secretary-Treasurer, and is on the Education Committee, and serves on the Western United Electric Supply Board. He has achieved Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) and will achieve the Board Leadership Certification (BLC) in 2022. Currently obtaining National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and Colorado Rural Electric Association (CREA) trainings. Kevin seeks to utilize these attained governance skills to better serve Mountain View members. On the horizon, he will attain Director Gold.

Mathis worked for Farmers State Bank of Calhan in various positions ranging from Agricultural Fieldman to Senior Vice President prior to becoming President in 1986. He held the position of President until he retired in 2001 after working more than 30 years. Prior to joining the Bank, he worked for Douglas County Grain Company as Manager, and worked for the USDA-FFIA as Assistant County Supervisor and County Supervisor in offices at Fort Collins and Burlington. Mathis received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from CSU and is a graduate of The Colorado School of Banking. Mathis and his wife, Mary, have 2 grown children and three grandchildren.
Gordon graduated from Simla High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy from Colorado State University in 1975. He owns and operates Gordon Insurance, an independent insurance agency with offices in Limon, Calhan, Flagler, and Sterling. He is president of Colorado Insurance Network, Inc., a network of 21 independent insurance agencies in Colorado.
He and his wife Cindy live near Simla and have a farm and ranching operation in the Matheson area.
