REMUERA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL - Key Persons
Alaric Nicholls is the Staff Representative on the BOT.
Alaric has taught at Remuera Intermediate since 2013, following a number of years teaching at both secondary school and tertiary education levels. During his time at RI, Alaric has had the pleasure of serving as Curriculum Leader (Science), Across-Schools Leader for our Kahui Ako (ACCoS), and is currently the Team Leader in the UpperHub ILE space (Y7).
Alaric is passionate about educating others and is grateful to be contributing to the RI community through this position on the Board of Trustees.

Carl Vink joined the board in 2022. He is married to Elizabeth and has four boys, the eldest is Year 7 at Remuera Intermediate, two at a local primary school and the youngest itching to join his brothers next year. Weekends are loaded with various sporting engagements and outdoor activities, especially those that include water!
Carl currently leads the Whakatupu Aotearoa Foundation, a philanthropic charitable trust and is a chartered director with the Institute of Directors. His background is primarily in marketing and communications, working across education, government and professional services, before moving into the NGO sector in 2014.
Derek was elected on to the BOT in 2019 having previously being a Parent Trustee and Treasurer on the Meadowbank School BOT from 2016 - 2019. Derek and his wife Sarah's eldest son, Isaac started at RI in 2019 and their younger son, Rowan will start in 2020.
Derek has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering where he was involved in the development of a unique wind turbine for electricity generation. For the past 16 years he has worked in investment banking at Bancorp advising senior management and boards across Australasia. He is a Member of the Institute of Directors, currently sits on the Board of Directors at Bancorp and Majestic Transport and is on the committee of a local hockey club.

Kyle commenced as Principal of Remuera Intermediate in 2016. Prior to this Kyle was a Principal both here in New Zealand and internationally.
His educational experiences include teaching Intermediate and Primary aged students and working in a variety of leadership roles including Director of Curriculum, IT consultant, workshop facilitator and Principal.
Kyle is excited to be working in middle years education where his career began. An area where young people can explore a wide variety of opportunities in a safe and supportive environment.

Vanessa was elected onto the board in 2023 and is a past student of Remuera Intermediate. She and her husband Jacob have three children. Their eldest started at RI in 2023, with the other two children following in 2025 and 2029.
Vanessa has Business and Arts degrees in Finance, Economics and Japanese, and a career in Institutional Banking.
