Dr. James Taterka

Dr. James Taterka was born in New York City and has committed his professional career to the practice of Gastroenterology. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, after which he attended medical school at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine were completed at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, and his fellowship in Gastroenterology was completed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Taterka became an attending physician in 1991. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Taterka is the Medical Director of the Springfield Ambulatory Surgery Center. He treats all gastrointestinal diseases, and has a special interest in colon cancer screening, diseases of the liver and biliary tree, and therapeutic endoscopy. When he is not working he enjoys spending time with his family and his dog Ruby, cooking, gardening and skiing.

Dr. Marie Bailey

Dr. Marie Bailey has dedicated her professional career to the clinical practice of Gastroenterology. She received her undergraduate degree from Chestnut Hill College, and then attended the Medical College of Pennsylvania where she received her M.D. Her internship was performed at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology were completed at the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University Hospital where she won first prize in the Komarov Competition for GI Fellow Research. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Bailey worked as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at MCP/Hahnemann University until 2003. She treats all gastrointestinal diseases, and has a special interest in women's gastrointestinal issues. When she's not working, Dr. Bailey spends time with her family, and enjoys outdoor activities, traveling and reading.

Dr. Steven Nack

A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Steven Nack has devoted his professional career to the study and clinical practice of Gastroenterology. He received his undergraduate degree from Albright College in Reading, Pa., and went to medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine were completed at West Virginia University Hospital, and he performed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Nack has held several teaching positions, and he is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Nack treats all gastrointestinal diseases, and has special interests in the treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Celiac Disease, as well as colon cancer screening and clinical nutrition. He enjoys several outdoor and indoor sports and is an avid fisherman, and is involved in local youth ice hockey as a coach and administrator.

Victor Araya

Dr Araya did his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Florida and his Internal Medicine residency at Temple University. He went to George Washington University School of Medicine and did his undergraduate work at Columbia University in New York where he graduated Cum Laude in Bio-psychology. He began his career as a Gastroenterologist and Hepatology on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. There he became the director of the Clinical Research Unit in the Transplant Medicine Division and participated in some of the earliest clinical research on hepatitis B and C treatment before and after liver transplantation. He was also in charge of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division's community outreach program. After his experience there, he went into private practice for 3 years and returned to academic medicine at Einstein in Philadelphia in 2000 where he served as Associate Director of Hepatology. He was subsequently asked to become the Chairman of the Division of Hepatology and the Medical Director of the liver transplant program. He led a successful clinical research unit working with pharmaceutical companies and doing independent research presenting his division's work at national and international meetings. Under his initiative, the Division of Hepatology formed the first dedicated Liver Unit with dedicated staff, and a very active multi-disciplinary liver cancer program in Philadelphia. Dr. Araya's similar level of interest in all areas of general Gastroenterology has continued since he left his academic position. Since doing so, he has managed all aspects of Gastroenterology but has continued his focus in liver diseases. He has continued to collaborate with pharmaceutical companies to bring the latest available medications to his patients and remains active in national and international professional organizations where he serves in various committees. His current goal is to help bring the most advanced treatment options to his patients and the entire USDH organization where he is already serving as a resource for his colleagues also.
