HENLEAZE JUNIOR SCHOOL - Key Persons
Miss Browne worked at HJS as one of our most reliable supply teachers, until we finally found that we simply couldn't run the school without her and she joined the permanent staff in 2011. She has a wealth of experience in all Primary School year groups.
Anna is the person you are most likely to meet when you visit the school or telephone us. She will give you a warm welcome, and can help you with just about anything you need!
Miss Cutler joined HJS as a newly qualified teacher in 2013. She has a passion for Musical Theatre, having obtained a degree in stage design.
Miss Hughes is an experienced musician and music teacher who has works in both primary and secondary schools. She teaches in our school one day a week, and during the course of the school year she teaches music in every class. She also leads a singing assembly every Tuesday morning and runs our school orchestra.
Clive worked at HJS for several years as one of our most highly regarded supply teachers before joining the Year 4 team as a "proper" member of staff in September 2021. He was with us throughout both of the pandemic lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, teaching the children of critical workers in school, and was also a pioneer of remote teaching when our first class was sent home to self-isolate! In his spare time, Clive is a leading light in the scouts.
Haleemah joined our teaching team in September 2022, having previously worked in the school on supply.
Miss Slade joined our Year 3 team as a newly qualified teacher in 2013. Prior to teaching, she qualified as a doctor, and she is also our most highly qualified mountaineer.
Harvey joined our learning support team in 2022, having previously worked at the school as our lunchtime leader. He is our qualified ELSA, providing emotional learning support to some of our children.
Mrs Spence has taught Year 6, Year 5 and Year 3 during her career at HJS. She has been a member of the SMT, and is our resident expert on Writing. Currently she job shares her class, working from Monday to Wednesday.
Isabel worked at the school before, but joined the staff in September 2017.

Mr Parr came to HJS as Deputy Head in 2012, and became our Headteacher in 2023. He teaches all the children in the school and specialises in social and emotional development. He is our "inner chimp" expert! Before he became a teacher, Mr Parr worked in publishing as an editor. So he knows a thing or two about punctuation...
Miss O'Neill has taught in Year 5 and Year 3 during her 10 years at HJS. She is an amazing artist - as you can often see from the sketches on her whiteboard in the classroom - and advises us all on displays and art techniques. She is the leader of the Strategic ICT Group, helping us to make sure the school has the right equipment and knows how to use it.
Mrs Beer is one of our most experienced and longest serving teachers. She has taught all year groups at HJS, and she takes a lead on PSHE.
Lyn joined the staff in September 2017, having previously worked at our next door neighbours', Henleaze Infant School. Both of her children have attended the Henleaze schools.
Mrs Garland performs many functions, not the least of which is getting the weekly newsletter out on time. She assists in the Reprographics Room and helps the finance staff with the money.
Mrs Sormani joined HJS in 2009, took a lead on Music, and soon joined the SMT. She has been our lead teacher for ELLI. She teaches in Year 6 on Thursdays and Fridays and specialises in the Science curriculum.
Mrs Martin provides one-to-one support for children with statements of special educational needs. She is a keen artist, and her work can be seen adorning some of our walls or on the backdrops and props for our plays.
Mrs Garrett joined the staff at HJS in 2015, having previously taught for 10 years in Kent. She has worked in the upper and lower juniors, and been a leader of our Maths team.
Mrs Hughes manages the day to day financial transactions, making sure we pay our bills and don't run out of money.

Mrs O'Brien is in charge of our office staff, and her job is to make sure that the business runs smoothly. As an academy, Henleaze Junior School owns a large site and employs over 40 people. The role of the School Business Manager is crucial in making sure that teachers can get on with the business of education and that the children are well looked after in every way. Mrs O'Brien really knows how schools work - her 3 daughters attended the school, she served a term of office as Chair of Governors at Henleaze Infant School, and she was the Business Manager at another primary school before she joined us in 2011.
Mrs Pickett has been a class teacher at HJS for more than 10 years. During that time, she has taken a lead on all sorts of things. Currently, she job shares her class, working from Wednesday to Friday..
Mrs Mumford has taught Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6 since she started at HJS in 2006. She joined the Senior Management Team in 2012. Not only a keen Geographer, she is a qualified Accountant.
Mrs James joined the school teaching Year 3 in 2012. Currently, she is providing additional specialist teaching to individuals and groups for our SEN team, and covering classes throughout the school.
Simon is a qualified teacher and parent of children at Henleaze. He has worked for the school as a volunteer and as leader of our lunchtime team and now as a Learning Support Assistant.

Mrs Goulden taught French and German at secondary schools for several years, before making the switch to primary education and joining us at Henleaze Junior School. She teaches all of our classes, so she has plenty of opportunity to get to know every single one of our children.

Mr Heath joined HJS in September 2014. He is the only qualified patissier on the staff (ever). Tom takes a lead on our PE curriculum and extra-curricular sport.
