Amanda Skelton

Job Titles:

Amanda has a background in publishing, administration and proofreading. Her role is to receive and process all donations made to the charity and to thank donors for their amazing generosity. In her spare time she enjoys listening to music, going to see concerts and musicals all over the country, reading and spending time with friends and family.

Amanda Tindale

Job Titles:
  • Income Manager
Amanda has been with the Charity since 2012, and oversees donations, legacies and gift aid. In her spare time she enjoys trying to train her rescue dog, and spending as much time outside as possible, be it gardening, camping or helping out at her local nature reserve.

Anne-Marie Lees

Job Titles:

Anne-Marie has a background in digital marketing, with experience working for various different organisations including Derbyshire-based children's charity Chicks. In her spare time Anne-Marie likes to travel around the UK and Europe, exploring hidden gems with her camera.

Barbara Cathcart - CEO

Job Titles:
  • Chief Executive
Barbara oversaw the creation of the Charity in 2006 when Nottingham City Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre merged. Barbara implements the Charity's strategy and has oversight of fundraising, finance, grant-making and governance. In her spare time, she spends a lot of time in mountains, running, on paddleboards, finding cold water and being with family in far-flung places.

Carole Ayre - Chairman

  • Retired Partner at Law Firm Browne Jacobson
Carole Ayre is currently a Retired Partner at law firm Browne Jacobson and led the development of their new Clinical Negligence team. Her focus has been on promoting the development of health law practice at the firm with a wide range of experience within the NHS sector. Outside her law practice Carole has chaired her local residents' association and is a regular volunteer for the National Trust.

Charity Stow

Charity joined the charity in October 2021 as a Community Fundraiser and her main role is to liaise with donors and assist with Fundraising Events. Outside of the office Charity enjoys making music and exploring the local countryside!

Deb Morton

Job Titles:

Deb joined the Charity in June 2023, after spending over 20 years working in a variety of volunteer involving organisations across both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Deb's role is to develop the Charity's volunteer offer and support the existing volunteers. Outside of work Deb enjoys spending time with her family, holidaying in Cornwall and renovating her garden.

Grace Micallef

In Grace's previous job, she worked as a claims handler for a jewellery company before moving to Nottingham and joining the team. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family and taking trips to London to watch a West End show.

Harish Vyas

  • Professor
Professor Harish Vyas' medical career spans four decades and includes working at Great Ormond Street. At Nottingham he brought together children's units from the former City and QMC hospitals to form Nottingham Children's Hospital, and led the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. Recently retired, Professor Vyas also brings a strong research background with him and recently completed fundraising for new children's respiratory testing equipment for the Children's Hospital.

Ilana Freestone

Ilana is CEO of local charitable trust Active Partners Trust, which aims to empower everyone in the community to be active. She helped establish the Trust in 2017, setting up all aspects of governance and recruiting a new Board and team.

Jayne Quantrill

Job Titles:

Jayne leads the Charity grant making process; establishing relationships with Hospital staff at all levels, providing advice and guidance to grant applicants and overseeing grant evaluations and follow up. She works closely with the communications team to ensure promotion of grant-making activity and with the Charity's Fundraising Team to capture the impact of the Charity grant making program. She brings 5 years' experience from a national grant making organisation and 3 years of partnership working with NHS England, Public Health England and the Care Quality Commission to the role.

Joanne Burr

Jo joined the team in November 2021 after spending eight years at a national charity where she managed a team of fundraisers looking after corporate relationships, in memory donors and individual supporters. Jo has a background in charity work, frontline local government work and university-based research. Jo's role is to support our corporate partners and to engage companies and their employees with our work. She lives in Nottingham with her husband and two children and enjoys running, hiking and travelling.

Jules Doherty

Jules joined the Charity in September 2021. Following over 18 years as a Research Scientist for large pharma AstraZeneca Jules then moved to the charity sector working as a Regional Fundraiser for the Stroke Association. Jules's role focuses on supporting our individual and community group donors with their fundraising and assisting and organising events. Outside of work she enjoys running, going on holiday, eating out and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Julie Atkin

Julie joined the charity in December 2023 and her role is to oversee all the Grants and operational financial aspects of the charity. Previously Julie worked in Finance and Credit Control. In her spare time she has interests in hairdressing, keeping active, getting involved in events and meetups with the biking community.

Julie Brailsford - CFO

Julie is a qualified accountant and has worked at the Charity since 2008, following a 20 year career in NHS Finance. She oversees our finance and governance arrangements to ensure that all our income and expenditure is properly accounted for. Her hobbies are reading, gardening and spending time with her family, including her two daughters and young grand-daughter.

Karen Morley

Karen joined the Charity's finance team in October 2017. Her role involves providing accounting support to the Finance Director in all aspects of financial management of the Charity. Karen previously worked in a finance role in Secondary Education and in her spare time has fundraised for a number of Charities, including our own.

Kate Morris

Kate spent three years working for an energy company before joining the charity in March 2021. Kate's role is to support the Individual Giving Manager by connecting with donors and promoting our individual giving appeals. Kate's favourite part of her job is hearing from our amazing fundraisers and donors and thanking them for their incredible efforts. In her spare time Kate can be found reading lots of books, watching her beloved Nottingham Forest and listening to KPOP

Keith Girling

Keith is a consultant in critical care medicine and also is part of the executive team at NUH. Having been at NUH for 30 years, he is well-placed to both support the Charity in making an impact, while being accessible for clinical teams to approach him to discuss how the Charity can help.

Laurence Coppel

Laurence was Head of Corporate Finance for Singer & Friedlander Limited, Merchant Bank and was then Executive Director of Singer & Friedlander Group PLC until his retirement. Laurence was a non executive Director of Queen's Medical Centre University Hospital NHS Trust for 6 years and was Chairman of Nottingham Building Society. Laurence is a council member and past county president of St John's Ambulance in Nottinghamshire, is a Trustee of Fundays in Nottinghamshire; and is Chairman of Trustees for Amanda Lee Charitable Trust.

Mark King

Job Titles:

Mark spent 27 years in the Aerospace industry with Rolls-Royce plc in the UK, ultimately becoming President of Aerospace - a division with £8.5 billion of sales, 27,000 employees and global operations. Since leaving Rolls-Royce in 2013 Mark has worked with a number of smaller Venture Capital backed companies providing non-executive and ‘semi-executive' support. Mark is currently Chairman of three companies - DEA Aviation Ltd, a provider of aerial survey and surveillance services; Bowman Power Group, a high speed electrical machines manufacturer and Alloyed Ltd, a specialist in digital alloy design and additive manufacturing.

Nigel Gregory

Nigel joins the Charity, bringing with him 17 years of experience in fundraising, several of these years spent working with Outward Bound West and the American Alpine Club helping them to develop their fundraising and communications strategy. As Director of Development, Nigel is responsible for overseeing all fundraising activity as well as developing and implementing an ambitious fundraising strategy to ensure that the Charity meets its potential and can build on its fundraising success.

Rebecca Taylor

Rebecca has community fundraising experience in both international and local charities Rebecca's role involves connecting with donors and working closely with them to maximise their potential. Rebecca will support the Community Fundraising Team with Events and support NUH staff fundraisers. In her spare time Rebecca can be found doing yoga, spending time in the mountains and exploring the UK.

Roger Summerton

Roger joined the Charity as a Trustee in February 2020. He is a chartered accountant and spent 45 years in the accounting profession, 20 of which were as a partner at KPMG. In more recent years Roger has been a director of a local financial advisory business and the director of a family office.

Roger Whittle

Nottingham-born Roger is the founder and CEO of Nottingham IT solutions company Jigsaw24, employing over 300 people across the UK, with annual sales of over £150 million. Roger established Jigsaw24 in 1992 and has been a Trustee of the charity since 2016. Roger's 10 year old daughter Rose Whittle received excellent care from 2011 to 2013 at Nottingham Children's Hospital in her ultimately unsuccessful fight against cancer.

Samantha Gathercole

Sam has been at the Charity since 2009. She takes care of media work and the Charity's newsletter and other publications. Away from work, Sam enjoys a busy life looking after her two young children.

Sanjeev Sharma

Sanjeev joined our Board of Trustees after previously supporting the Charity and raising more than £42,000 through a Mount Snowdon trek, to thank hospital staff for saving his life after he was seriously ill with Covid-19. Sanjeev is a successful and well-respected barrister, based in Nottingham but practising across the country.

Sophie Parkins

Sophie joined the Charity in May 2022 after spending 12 years at the British Heart Foundation, most recently as Head of Corporate and Community Fundraising (East Midlands), followed by a year working for TOFS charity. After six months as Senior Community Fundraiser at Nottingham Hospitals Charity covering a maternity position, she took on the role of Fundraising Hub Manager at QMC. In September 2023 she started working for the charity as the Corporate & Community Fundraiser. Sophie's role is to support our corporate partners and engage with companies and their employees with our work. In her free time she loves spending time with her little boy, husband and family, enjoying walks, days out, having fun and making memories together.

Zara Ali

Zara joined the charity in January 2023. Her role is to oversee all Operational Financial aspects of the Charity. Before this role Zara was previously working in Finance at Boots HQ. During her spare time she likes travelling, reading and spending time with family and friends.
