Dennis L. Fowler, MD, MPH, is Medical Director of the New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Simulation Center and Director of the Reemtsma Center for Innovation and Outcomes Research in the Department of Surgery at Columbia. He completed a Surgical Endoscopy Fellowship in 1980 at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where he focused on advancing and teaching minimally invasive surgery, after previously attending medical school and residency in Kansas City. He was Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery in Pittsburgh between 1997-2000 and Director of the Minimal Access Surgery Center at New York Presbyterian Hospital between 2000-2008. He was also a hospital VP and Director of Perioperative Services at Columbia from 2004-2008.
Dennis is a pioneer in endoscopic surgery, being the first to conduct certain laparoscopic techniques for which he developed both the technology and the training methods. He has published extensively on the topics of minimally invasive surgery, technology development, and surgical education. In 2008 he received his MPH degree from Columbia University, and now focuses on improved healthcare outcomes, bringing innovative technology to market (e.g. robotics to reduce the complexity of minimally invasive surgery) and healthcare delivery.

Warren S. Sandberg is Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Medical School. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. After anesthesia residency and twelve years as faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital, Warren moved to Vanderbilt in 2010 as the 7th Chairman of the Anesthesiology Department.
His clinical interests range from ambulatory surgery to anesthesia for liver transplantation. Warren's research career began in structural biology and mechanisms of anesthesia, but he has now developed broad research interests in medical technology, informatics, patient safety and innovation in perioperative and periprocedural design, processes and operations. A particular focus is using medical information systems for process monitoring, decision support and process control.
