Alan C. Marco

Dr. Alan Marco is Associate Professor at the Georgia Tech School of Public Policy, and former Chief Economist at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has also taught at the Williams School of Commerce at Washington and Lee University and at Vassar College. He specializes in industrial organization, law and economics, innovation, patent policy, licensing of intellectual property, competition policy and regulation, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, game theory and empirical legal studies. His academic research currently focuses on uncertainty in intellectual property rights, measuring the magnitude of that uncertainty and the impact of court errors, as well as analyzing the consequences of uncertainty on firm strategy and market performance, and incentives for consolidation. He has studied property rights more generally and the regulatory importance of the implicit trade-offs between patent policy and competition policy. Dr. Marco has published over a dozen articles in leading academic journals including The Journal of Law and Economics, The Review of Law and Economics, The American Journal of Agricultural Economics and The Review of Financial Economics. Dr. Marco has extensive experience in the consulting and litigation arena. He has worked as a consultant for the Tilden Group and the Law and Economics Consulting Group, on assignments related to antitrust and intellectual property. Prior to those assignments he worked for Capital Economics on merger and trade issues. His recent independent consulting assignments have focused on intellectual property matters.

Dr. Brian Wright is Professor at the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, and an economist with the Agricultural Experiment Station and the Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics. His research focuses on the economics of markets for storable commodities, market stabilization, agricultural policy, industrial organization, public finance, invention incentives, intellectual property rights, the economics of research and development, and the economics of conservation and innovation relating to genetic resources. Dr. Wright has published extensively in the leading academic journals in economics and agricultural economics. He has co-authored or co-edited several books, including Storage and Commodity Markets, Reforming Agricultural Commodity Policy, Saving Seeds: The Economics of Conserving Genetic Resources at the CGIAR Centers, and Accessing Biodiversity and Sharing the Benefits: Lessons from Implementing the Convention on Biodiversity. In addition, Dr. Wright has co-authored articles in Nature Biotechnology, The Handbook of Plant Biotechnology, and Crop Science. Dr. Wright was elected a Fellow of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association and has served on the editorial boards of Revista Economia y Administración and Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics. He has reviewed articles and proposals for numerous academic journals, for the National Science Foundation and for the USDA's National Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program. He has received grant support from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Wright's consulting experience includes insurance, economic damages, patent licensing, and patent infringement matters in pharmaceuticals, agricultural and food markets. He has served as the economist member of the Subcommittee on Proprietary Science and Technology of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and on the Committee on Intellectual Property in Genomic and Protein Research and Innovation of the National Academies' Board of Science, Technology and Economic Policy. Dr. Wright consulted on numerous assignments for the World Bank, the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Recently, he has presented invited lectures on the food price volatility in England, France, Austria, Australia, and Brazil, and addressed the Board of Directors of the World Bank and the Advisory Board of Rabobank on this issue. Dr. Wright presented his work on agricultural innovation at the National Bureau of Economic Research meeting on "Accelerating Energy Innovation: Insights from Multiple Sectors" in Washington, D.C., and presented his research on patents and innovation in Austria, Beijing, and Melbourne.

Colin A. Carter

Dr. Colin Carter is Distinguished Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Davis, where he served as Department Chair between 1998 to 2001. He is Director of the University of California's Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics. His fields of interest include commodity markets and international trade. He has produced around 150 academic publications in the areas of international trade, agricultural policy, futures and commodity markets, the economics of China's agriculture, and the economics of biotechnology adoption in agriculture. Dr. George Saioc is a Senior Economist at OnPoint where he focuses principally on antitrust and class action litigation. He has a special knack for voluminous multi-sourced data and complex modelling. His statistical and economic analyses cover sectors as diverse as food production, transportation, insurance, financial intermediation, pharmaceuticals, securities and derivatives. George has a special interest in cases involving the automotive industry (explained - at least partially - by his weekend hobby of track racing). His Ph.D. research included public, labor, and urban economics, assessing the impact of federal programs on the work habits of retirees and postsecondary students. In the wake of the financial crisis and real estate downturn, he conducted empirical research using private and public data to quantify the impact of state laws and linkages between owners and rental markets.

Dr. Johan Walden

Dr. Johan Walden is a financial economist and testifying expert on risk analysis and financial and insurance markets, with a particular focus on portfolio risk diversification and risk regulation. He has provided analysis and expert testimony on risk-based capital (RBC) ratios of insurance and reinsurance companies, the role of RBC ratios in reviews by industry regulators and credit rating agencies (CRA), and the effect of risk-based capital calculations and capital adequacy models on agency credit ratings. In addition, he has studied the effect of increased leverage on the risk associated with investment in a particular stock, providing expert testimony showing increased volatility from a corporate acquisition that significantly increased the company's debt load and illustrating how this risk could have been substantially reduced through diversification. Dr. Walden is the Mitsubishi Bank Chair in International Business and Finance at the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Dr. Walden has been teaching at Berkeley since 2005. He regularly teaches MBA, MFE, and executive education courses covering topics in finance, asset pricing, and financial engineering. He has presented his research at some of the world's preeminent universities and finance conferences, including the American Finance Association and European Finance Association, among others. Dr. Walden has also served as a referee for many of the top academic journals in economics, finance, and insurance, including Econometrica, American Economic Review, and the Journal of Risk and Insurance. Before entering academia, Dr. Walden worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company's Stockholm office, where he focused on corporate strategy, particularly within the telecommunications and financial institutions industries. Dr. Walden's recent consulting experience includes assisting government entities in assessing new programs and regulations. In 2009, he assisted The Congressional Oversight Panel in evaluating the Federal Reserve Board's Supervisory Capital Assessment Program, which resulted in recognition from national media outlets such as Fox Business, CNBC, ABC News, MSNBC, and the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Walden and his Berkeley colleague Dwight Jaffee also authored a report to the Swedish Financial Markets Committee analyzing the effect of new regulations on the Swedish banking and insurance systems.

Gardner M. Brown

He is also the co-founder and CEO of the Institute for Regulatory Training, which provides education resources to government regulators and self-regulatory bodies responsible for overseeing and regulating financial and trading markets. John Galindo

Laura Craft is the President and a co-founder of OnPoint. She brings to her work more than thirty years of experience managing expert witnesses in a wide variety of disciplines, including economics, finance, banking, statistics, accounting, marketing, trading and market manipulation, medicine, drug development, biological sciences, and civil engineering. She has been responsible for coordinating nationwide class action litigation, supporting billions of dollars of troubled debt portfolio run off, implementing strategies to assure recovery from failing financial institutions, designing products to facilitate safe and more efficient over-the-counter trading, and lobbying or providing comment to Congress on many important questions of reform. Her experience provides her with a comprehensive perspective on the legal process and the unique role filled by the testifying expert. She frequently provides continuing education courses to attorneys on topics such as data use and damage estimation methodologies. At OnPoint, Laura coordinates the efforts of staff economists, statisticians, database developers, research analysts, and graphic artists to assure that each expert opinion is not only thoroughly supported, but simply and convincingly communicated. She is a co-author of the recent book, Empirical Challenges in Pharmaceutical Litigation. Laura rides cutting horses, dances, attends theater and generally enjoys life while working hard.

Manvi Beniwal

Michael is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and also has his own consulting and bookkeeping business with a wide range of clients including lawyers and technology companies. Michael considers both UC Berkeley and Cal State East Bay as his alma maters. He has an MBA, and is a CPA (inactive) and member of the Phi Betta Kappa Society.
