Ana Bianchi Aguiar

Ana is currently analyst at Pathena. Since October 2015, she has been actively participating in the different investment cycle phases, namely through market research, financial valuation, business plan development, and portfolio work. With an initial background in economics, Ana holds a M.Sc degree in international business administration with a major in innovation and technology by Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics, which she completed with honors and full scholarship. During her academic path she also studied in Université Paris Dauphine and HEC Montreal. In addition to starting her career at Pathena, she has been invited to join Católica-Lisbon as a M.Sc's grader in the areas of entrepreneurship, strategy and marketing, as well as a research assistant in consumer behaviour.

António Murta - CEO, Founder

António is Managing Partner, co-founder and CEO of Pathena. Also, António serves as Non-exec Board Member and Observer in the Board of various Pathena Fund invested companies. António Has a degree in systems engineering from Minho University, an MBA from Porto Business School (University of Porto), an AMP from INSEAD (France). Has also done post-graduate studies at ISEE/University of Navarra (Spain) and MIT (Sloan School of Management US) and Singularity University (US) - Exponential Medicine. From 1991 to 1997 he was CIO of Sonae Distribuição, the largest Portuguese retailer at the time. He founded and was CEO of Enabler from 1998 onwards - Enabler was a systems integrator strictly focused in retail. Enabler was acquired by Wipro in 2006 and from then to the end of 2009 he was VP of retail services at Wipro. He is also a Founding Partner and business angel of various other IT, Digital Health, Digital Therapeutics and MedTech companies. António is Founding Board Member of Endeavor Portugal, Non-Exec Board Member of Immunethep and Non-Exec Board Member of Casa de Investimentos. He is also a seasoned speaker in innovation and entrepreneurship. Finally, he is recurrently an invited referee/jury in Healthtech / Medtech events across Europe.

Carlos Oliveira

Carlos serves as An Advisory Board Member of Pathena. He has an entrepreneurial and visionary spirit with experience in entrepreneurship and innovation, management and public policies for innovation. Carlos is the former Secretary of State for Entrepreneurship, Competitiveness and Innovation at the Portuguese Government. In 2000 Carlos founded MobiComp, a startup in the mobile services arena, and led the company as CEO until July 2008 when he sold the company to Microsoft. His work included building the company product strategy, driving sales and growing the company. Carlos has a consumer-centric perspective with experience in management, strategic planning, and business development for the mobile and wireless industries. Carlos also founded several other startups and worked as an executive at Microsoft and as an angel/VC investor. Carlos regularly speaks at industry events as well as contributing to print, radio and television media. Carlos has a degree in Systems Engineering from Minho University. He has done the PAGETTI post-graduate study at Universidade Católica Portuguesa

Daniel Bessa

Daniel Bessa was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1948.He is married and has one daughter. Daniel Bessa has a degree in Economics from University of Porto, 1970, and a PhD in Economics, from Technical University of Lisbon, 1986. He is Board member of Amorim Turismo and chairman of the Auditing Boards of Bial - Portela e Companhia, Galp Energia and Sonae SGPS. He is member of the Investment Committee of PVCI - Portuguese Venture Capital Initiative (an initiative of EIF - European Investment Fund). He has been a professor at the University of Porto School of Economics from 1970 to 2009. His main research and teaching area is Macroeconomics (Monetary and Financial Policy). He has been Dean of EGP - University of Porto Business School from July 2000 to March 2009. From June 2009 to February 2016 he has been CEO of COTEC Portugal (a private association of Portuguese companies to promote innovation supported by the Portuguese University system knowledge and technologies). He has been board member of AICEP, Celbi, Efacec, Finibanco, Finibanco Holding and INPARSA. He also has been member of the General and Supervisory Board of BCP. He has been Minister for the Economy of the Portuguese Government from October 1995 to March 1996.

Joana Prieto

Joana is the Office Manager of Pathena and is responsible for all the administrative support and for organizing office operations and procedures in order to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency. Joana holds a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures (English/German) by Faculdade de Letras - Universidade de Coimbra. She has also a Post-Graduation in Translation (English/ German) by the same institution and an Executive Master in Human Resources Management by EGE - Atlantic Business School at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. She has started her professional path in 2002 in Sogrape as Marketing Assistant and after that as Client Manager in an Trading Agency in the textile area. In 2006 she joined Enabler as Administrative Assistant, responsible for all the Admin tasks in Braga office. In 2008 assumed the position as Office Manager/ Administrative Assistant in MobiComp. During her professional career, Joana made continuous training in areas such as Human Resources, Secretariat and Foreign languages, as for instance a 2 years Italian Course at Universidade do Minho

Jorge Brás - CEO, Founder

Jorge is Managing Partner and co-founder of Pathena. He acted before as CEO and COO, and sat in several different boards as executive and non-executive Director. As investor, Jorge had been involved in the full investment cycle activities, from prospecting, investment decision, due diligence, company follow up and exit. Before Pathena he had been co-founder of Enabler (incorporated in 1997), and was Enabler's COO when Wipro Technologies acquired Enabler in 2006. Jorge participated in the initial set up of Enabler and supported the international development and growth of the company. Within Wipro, Jorge became General Manager - head of delivery for Wipro Retail business unit leading a team of 400+ people, assignment that finished in 2009 before assuming full time role as investor. Before the creation of Enabler, Jorge was the IT Director in Sonae Retail in Portugal. He has international experience in several different countries, including Portugal, Spain, UK, Germany, USA, Brazil, UAE and India. Jorge is Systems Engineer from University of Minho in Portugal. During his professional career, he made continuous training in areas like general management, leadership and M&A in different schools including INSEAD and London Business School. Jorge has been Director of centre of excellence of dematerialization of transactions and is mentor in Porto Business School (University of Porto).

João Martins

João is Partner at Pathena with a focus on Medical Technologies and Telecoms. He served on the Board of imobilemagic (exited to SmithMicro) and holds a board observer position at TNI Medical AG. João has over 25 years of extensive knowledge and experience in the Technology industry across EMEA and latin america where he has a track record of breaking through in new markets and creating a customer base. He has led large deals and transformation programmes in reference utilities, retail and telecom groups. Before joining Pathena, João held leading management positions including companies like Wipro Technologies, Enabler and Efacec. Fluent in German and English with working knowledge in Spanish and French, João holds a degree in Computer & Electrical Engineering (FEUP - University of Porto) and an Advanced Sales Management Course at London Business School. He is a Singularity University alumni - Exponential Medicine - and passionately embraces continuous education in the medical area (eg. Endocrinology & Diabetes at São João Hospital, Porto)

Nigel Pilkington

Nigel Pilkington read Mathematics at Cambridge University. In the early part of his career he designed systems for the Manufacturing and Distribution industries. He subsequently managed large IT departments for major British retailers including J Sainsbury and British Home Stores. In 2001 he founded Enabler UK and subsequently became Chairman of Enabler a company dedicated to providing systems to retailers. He is Chairman of the Trustees of The Levantine Foundation a charity dedicated preserving the heritage of the Middle East. He is an enthusiast for the Art and Architecture of the Middle Ages and Renaissance and is a keen cricket follower

Nuno Sousa

Nuno Sousa is full professor and president of the School of Medicine, University of Minho. Nuno Sousa, together with a small group of other leaders, was able to create this highly prestigious medical school, one of the most well known and respected internationally, from scratch after he moved from U. Porto to U. Minho in 2001. Nuno Sousa serves at several medical education and medical assessment advisory boards around the world, including the National Board of Medical Examiners (where he is an executive board member) and the European Board of Medical Assessors. Nuno Sousa is the Chief Medical Officer of Pathena, SA and has created several spin-offs, including BnML and ICognitus. He is a Medical Doctor, with training in Neuroradiologist. Presently, he is the Director of the Clinical Academic Center (2CA) at Hospital de Braga. He is the Coordinator of the Neuroscience Research Domain, which integrates the ICVS/3B´s is a joint-venture with the Institute of Health and Life Sciences (ICVS) of U. Minho, a research institute of the highest quality in medicine, health and life sciences. Nuno Sousa has published more than 300 peer-reviewed research articles. Nuno Sousa's papers have been cited more than 10000 times and his H-factor is 54. Nuno Sousa coordinates several national and international scientific projects, including workpackages in some European initiatives in the field of neuroscience. He is Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers in behavioral neuroscience and member of editorial board of molecular neurodegeneration, neurobiology of stress and neuropharmacology. Nuno Sousa was the president of the Portuguese Society for Neurosciences (2011-2015). He was the president of the Scientific Council of Life and Health Sciences of FCT (Portuguese Science Foundation) and president of the Portuguese Society of Anatomy (2014-2016). He is a member of Bial Foundation He has received awards and honors for his research accomplishments of which the gold medal from the Portuguese ministry of health merits a specific mention.

Vitor Dinis - CEO, CFO

Vitor is Managing Partner, co-founder and Pathena's CFO. Currently he serves as a non-executive board member of two Pathena fund investments, and he is observer in other boards. He is a Portuguese national fluent in English and French with a working knowledge of Spanish. Vitor has a comprehensive experience and knowledge in corporate finance, cross-border transactions, business modelling & planning and business strategy. Vitor holds a degree in accounting and business management from Oporto Accounting Institute - Portugal. Vitor started his career at Arthur Andersen in 1997 in the finance, accounting, and controllerships service line. In 2002 he joined Deloitte as a Manager. In 2003 he assumed the position of CFO at Enabler, a systems integrator firm focused on Oracle retail implementations. During his professional career, Vitor completed continuous training in several areas such as general management, tax, leadership, company valuation and M&A in different schools including Universidade Católica. In 2006 Enabler was acquired by Wipro Technologies, Vitor took the role of Senior Manager of internal audit & risk management of Wipro's european geography.
