Bruce Moxon

Bruce Moxon is an operationally informed big compute / big data technology expert guiding customers in the development and deployment of hybrid and native cloud HPC/HTC solutions for technical and enterprise applications. He has developed compute- and data-intensive solutions in Finance, Life Sciences, Digital Effects, and Earth Sciences, leveraging his recognized expertise in emerging storage, memory, and accelerated computing technologies and their effective use in applications, databases, and storage systems. He leverages his experience as both technology consumer and vendor, coupled with a natural innovation bent to develop solutions that deliver transformative business value. Currently, Mr. Moxon is a Senior HPC Architect at Microsoft Azure, where he works with customers and solution architects in deploying dynamic HPC infrastructure to realize the transformative value of the Cloud on existing and emerging HPC and AI/ML applications. Most recently, Mr. Moxon was Principal Solutions Architect at Yellowbrick Data. Here he applied his performance engineering expertise and broad industry knowledge to high priority system engineering initiatives for the CEO, CTO, and Director of System Engineering. His activities centered on performance characterization and benchmarking and competitive landscape understanding, and he was frequently asked to educate Sales and Marketing organizations on such topics. Previously, Mr. Moxon was Principal Architect of NVMe Storage Solutions and an Innovation Fellow at Samsung's Strategy and Innovation Center and Stellus Technologies. Here, he worked on the development of new Data Center architectures and analytic applications employing advances in NVMe-based SSDs and NVDIMMs, and worked closely with Samsung's investment teams in technical evaluation of a number of early stage investments. Some of Mr. Moxon's prior roles include: CTO of Systems and Solutions at sTec, a Solid State Storage company acquired by HGST; CTO at Cerelink, a private cloud computing service for digital effects rendering used by DreamWorks Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks; Vice President of Strategic Technology at NetApp, and Senior Director of Bioinformatics and Software Development at Perlegen Sciences. Mr. Moxon has created solutions for a number of high throughput computing environments, including Perlegen Sciences' SNP discovery system, Bank of America's CRM warehouse and analytics systems, and NASA's Earth Observing System. He has consulted on additional data intensive computing projects across a number of application domains, including bioinformatics, energy, image processing, and data warehousing/business intelligence. He has developed and taught courses on relational data management, parallel and distributed computing, and bioinformatics at the UC Santa Cruz Extension program. Mr. Moxon has a BS degree in engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a MS degree in computer engineering from the University of Southern California.
