Adrian Crompton

As head of Audit Wales, he oversees the annual audit of some £24 billion of taxpayers' money and is appointed on an eight-year term. Adrian Crompton was born and grew up in the Forest of Dean, in Gloucestershire, where he still lives today with his wife and two children. After studying Economics at Bath University, he lived and worked in Paris before embarking on a career in parliamentary service in the House of Commons. After a brief period as a government statistician, he moved to the newly established National Assembly for Wales (now, the Welsh Parliament/Senedd Cymru). Adrian undertook various roles at the Senedd before becoming Director of Assembly Business and senior procedural advisor to the Llywydd in 2007. Between 2014 and 2018, Adrian worked as an Associate for Global Partners Governance, a social purpose company strengthening parliamentary democracy and political institutions in countries around the world. His expertise and practical support to senior politicians and civil servants was at the heart of projects nurturing democratic reform in Sudan, Iraq, Egypt and Jordan. In March 2018, Adrian was recommended by the Senedd for appointment as the Auditor General for Wales and was formally appointed to the position by HM The Queen with effect from 21 July 2018. As Auditor General for Wales and Chief Executive of Audit Wales, he leads an organisation of around 270 staff auditing the spending and performance of most of the Welsh public sector.

Alison Gerrard

Alison is a CIPFA Accountant with a further qualification in Corporate Governance. She previously worked in NHS Wales for over 32 years with 11 years of experience at Board level as a Director of Finance and latterly as Director of Governance. She has broad experience in policy development, strategic and operational planning, performance management and all aspects of financial and corporate governance. Throughout her career, Alison has always been a champion of fairness treating people equally without discrimination or favouritism as well as upholding honest and equitable standards of behaviour. In 2014, Alison was appointed as the Independent Member on the Wales Audit Office's Audit & Risk Assurance Committee which has given her a good grounding in the work of the Wales Audit Office Board. Outside work, Alison is involved closely with her local theatre both on and off the stage and as a tv extra. She also is passionate about travelling and loves exploring places off the tourist trail.

Anne Beegan

Anne was born in Birkenhead, on the Wirral and was educated at Prenton High School for Girls. Anne has worked for Audit Wales and its predecessor organisations, District Audit and Audit Commission in Wales, since 1999. She is a Performance Audit Manager based in West Wales, with responsibility for a range of health studies. She is also the Performance Audit Manager for Hywel Dda University Health Board. Before working for Audit Wales, she was Clinical Governance Manager at the Royal Berkshire & Battle Hospitals NHS Trust in Reading. Anne holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from Manchester Metropolitan University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Information Systems from the University of Salford. She moved to Wales in 1999 when she joined District Audit and spent the first seven years of her auditing career in North Wales before relocating to West Wales in 2006. Anne is one of two elected employee members of the Board. Outside of work, she is a parent governor at a local secondary school, is an active volunteer with local sports clubs and is a keen walker. She has two teenage sons and lives in Pembrokeshire.

Anne-Louise Clark

Anne-Louise joins Audit Wales following a career in Local Government in Yorkshire and Humberside, Kent, London and most recently Blaenau Gwent. Throughout her career Anne-Louise has focussed on developing local government services, developing people, and ensuring the financial and human assets are aligned to achieving better outcomes for citizens. Her roles have included providing leadership across a wide portfolio of services including HR/OD, Communications, Customer Services, Procurement and Transformation. The role of digital in the future shape of services and organisation is a particular interest for Anne-Louise as is ensuring services and products are designed with the needs of the customer at their heart. Anne-Louise brings a wealth of experience to Audit Wales and a perspective from outside of the organisation. She has held senior leadership roles and prior to joining the organisation was Chief Officer Commercial at Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. The impact of COVID-19 resulted in Anne-Louise and her team being at the forefront of the Council's response. In partnership with other public sector bodies, she led on the development and creation of a range of new services including the Test, Trace, Protect programme. Anne-Louise lives in Gloucestershire with her husband and Romania Rescue hound Buddy. She enjoys walking and trying to grow vegetables. A proud Geordie at heart she is passionate about the potential for Wales and the role Audit Wales has in supporting the country's aspirations. Being married to a Welshman means the Welsh Flag flies high on match days involving the oval ball. She is also proud to be a trustee of the mental health charity Platfform - working to improve services and access to appropriate mental health support.

Chris Bolton

Chris is currently Research and Development Manager at Audit Wales and previously developed and led the Audit Wales Good Practice Exchange. He started his audit career originally with District Audit having previously worked in environmental regulation and improvement for Water Companies, the National Rivers Authority and Environment Agency. He is a scientist by background having studied at the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology in Cardiff. He also holds a number of Post Graduate qualifications in management and leadership. In 2018 Chris became a Churchill Fellow and travelled the USA and Basque Country studying the governance of large-scale cooperatives and social enterprises. He is keenly interested in cooperatives as a means of engaging communities in sustaining a vibrant civic society. Outside of Audit Wales Chris is Chair of Merthyr Valleys homes, Wales' first, and largest tenant and staff cooperative. He has also served on the Board of Cartrefi Cymru Coop a social care provider. Chris is a native of the South Wales Valleys and is proud of its culture, history, communities and for our future potential.

Elinor Gwynn

With a background in environmental science and law, Elinor Gwynn is an experienced practitioner in the fields of landscape, heritage and environmental management and sustainable development. During her career Elinor has worked in key roles within a several public and third sector organisations, including the National Trust, the Countryside Council for Wales, Snowdonia National Park, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Welsh Centre for International Affairs and Natural Resources Wales. She has also worked in a freelance capacity across diverse fields - from writing, editing and creative translation to developing and advising on heritage grant projects. Elinor is currently a full-time researcher within the Geography and Earth Sciences Department at Aberystwyth University. She lives in north-west Wales where she enjoys mountaineering, water sports, arts and books.

Gareth Lucey

A Chartered Accountant with more than 20 years' experience, Gareth's career has included time in France, Canada and Australia. As an Accounts Director Gareth is responsible for overseeing the delivery of a portfolio of audit work across central government, local government and the NHS. He is also actively involved with our trainee programme, leading reviews of our apprenticeship and graduate entry schemes to develop the future finance leaders of the Welsh public sector. Born and raised in Caerphilly, Gareth attended St. Martin's Comprehensive School before studying for a degree in Accounting with French at Cardiff University. A fluent French speaker, during his degree he spent a year studying at the École Supérieure de Commerce de Chambéry in France. While he has spent the majority of his career at Audit Wales and its predecessor bodies, he began his career as a trainee with the National Audit Office in London. In 2011 he moved to Vancouver, Canada to work with a financial services firm and gained further experience at the Victorian Auditor General's Office and the University of Melbourne in Australia. In 2013 Gareth returned to the Wales Audit Office (subsequently Audit Wales), working across our accounts and performance audit work. Gareth lives in Cardiff and is married with a young son who keeps him busy. However, when he has some spare time he holds a season ticket at Cardiff Rugby and enjoys cycling, cinema and cooking (with Italian food a speciality). He is also learning Welsh.
