Arif Ahmed is Associate Dean at the Henry W. Bloch School of Management and is the Department Chair for Public Affairs. He also has a courtesy faculty appointment at the UMKC School of Dentistry. He is also faculty coordinator for the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in public affairs and administration in the Bloch School.Dr. Ahmed's primary research interest is in non-monetary determinants of access and utilization of health care. His current research agenda focuses on cost, quality, and outcome characteristics of alternative health care delivery models, and the policy implications of distribution and patterns of dental diseases and care needs. His research has appeared in preeminent medical and public health journals including Annals of Family Medicine, Public Health Reports, Journal of Public Health Dentistry, Medical Decision Making, and Nursing Research, and he has made numerous research presentations at national and international academic conferences. He also leads two acclaimed executive education programs at the Bloch School - the Cerner Certificate in Healthcare Leadership and the Physician Leadership Program. He routinely provides expert commentary on health policy issues to the print and electronic media. Bryan Boots serves as Associate Teaching Professor with the Bloch School of Management, and Managing Director for Applied Research on entrepreneurship with the Regnier Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. In his time at UMKC, Bryan has coached and mentored hundreds of rising entrepreneurs in the Kansas City region and beyond. He teaches classes on product development, technology entrepreneurship, and technology management, among others. Bryan also leads the Regnier Institute's portfolio of applied research into entrepreneurship and innovation. This new initiative is aimed at helping university-based entrepreneurship centers, entrepreneurship support organizations, startups, and entrepreneurial ecosystems to better understand the forces driving or inhibiting entrepreneurial activity. This includes five pillars: better understanding goals and motivations of entrepreneurially-minded students; better understanding the role of mentors and mentorship in the entrepreneurial development process; better understanding university-based entrepreneurship programs and centers; better understanding entrepreneurial networks and entrepreneurial ecosystems; and sponsored research with regional startups or innovation-driven corporations. Previously, Bryan led the Regnier Institute's portfolio of Venture Creation programs, which includes the Entrepreneurship Scholars (E-Scholars) program, competitions, mentorship programs, and technology commercialization. Bryan has started his own ventures, has worked as an employee or consultant with startups, and worked in product development with Garmin. His most recent venture, Growth Map Consulting Group, helps organizations identify and implement opportunities for innovating in their industries.

Erin Blocher

is an Associate Teaching Professor of Management at the Henry W. Bloch School of Management. She works with undergraduate and graduate students as a faculty member teaching business communication and as a co-advisor for the nationally ranked UMKC Enactus team, an organization where students complete social entrepreneurship projects on a global scale. Erin holds a 2007 Masters in Communication and Rhetoric from the University of Kansas and a 2015 Graduate Certificate in Executive and Professional Coaching from the University of Texas at Dallas. She also earned a 2003 Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a Minor in History, from the University of Kansas. Erin's teaching emphasis has included courses in communication theory, public speaking, effective business communication, innovation, and documentary film. She developed a business communication curriculum for the Bloch School and was the founding Director of the Bloch Communication Center from 2008 to 2018 - an academic center focused on polishing students' professional written and verbal communication. With a commitment to cross-campus collaboration, Erin has represented the Bloch School on the UMKC Faculty Senate and the University Writing and Reading Board. Erin serves as a faculty mentor for students in the Honors Program and has taught honors courses. As a professional coach and speaker on communication topics, Erin has consulted with organizations large and small in the corporate, non-profit, health care, and government fields. She helps business leaders apply effective business communication strategies and tactics to real-world situations, such as managing the intergenerational workforce, the impacts of digital communication, effective client communication, personal branding for the job market, and high-stakes presentations. Erin has presented her scholarly research at several regional and national conferences. Her scholarly papers and presentations have focused on campus engagement, social entrepreneurship education, public address, and political communication.
