MINUTEMAN MISSILE

I grew up in Lewistown, Montana, the center of the 490th Strategic Missile Squadron, and was very familiar with the numerous Minuteman III Launch Facilities located in numerous areas surrounding Lewistown. It was hard not to notice these missiles. What initially started as a respectful curiosity toward the Minuteman missile, has grown into a significant interest in the Minuteman missile, its weapon system and components, as well as becoming very interested in the Peacekeeper and Small ICBM missiles... Construction of the 1000 Launch Facilities that housed each of these Minuteman ICBM missiles individually, including the 100 Launch Control Centers that controlled these missiles, was by no means a small undertaking. Within a time span of approximately 5 1/2 years (1962 to 1967) there were 1000 Minuteman missiles deployed and operational across the United States.
