Dr Angela Chia

Angela was trained at the Royal Melbourne, The Royal Women's and the Royal Children's Hospital. She has been working as a Consultant Obstetrics Anaesthetist and Pain Specialist in the above major tertiary centres for more than a decade. She is committed in improving pain management in women's health in both public and private sectors. She is passionate about integrating interventional pain technique into multidisciplinary pain management. Her particular interest in pelvic pain has led to major development in research projects and key teaching roles in the state. She is the immediate past president of Chronic Pelvic Pain Victoria, which is a not for profit organization, aiming at improving education to health care providers. Dr Angela Chia consults at Pain Matrix Eastern which is located in Arnold Street Box Hill, Dr Chia also consults from Chelsea House in Flemington Road, Parkville.

Dr Brett Chandler

Brett Chandler graduated from the University of Tasmania in 1999 and then spent time training throughout Australia and the UK before completing his specialty training as both an Anaesthetist and as a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician. He became a fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, ANZCA in 2012 after undertaking a fellowship at the Geelong Pain Unit in 2011. Brett was inspired to set up Pain Matrix to bring accessible and comprehensive multidisciplinary pain medicine to the Geelong region. Brett has an interest in providing timely pain management to those with persistent pain after back surgery, neuropathic pain and the elderly. Brett uses pharmacological, interventional, psychological and patient education to individualise treatment to each patient and their pain syndrome. In addition to his work at Pain Matrix Brett also consults as a Visiting Medical Officer in Anaesthetics and as a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician to Barwon Health and is involved in teaching medical students, Anaesthetic registrars and Pain Fellows.

Dr Diarmuid McCoy

Dr Diarmuid McCoy, a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician. He graduated from the University College of Cork, before undertaking vocational training at St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin. He worked as a Senior Fellow at Flinders University in Adelaide, before taking up a position as a Consultant Pain Medicine Physician at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool. Diarmuid returned to Australia in 2004, where he has since been based in Geelong. He has been a Clinical Director of the pain management unit at University Hospital Geelong Barwon Health since 2004, and is now a Director with Pain Matrix. Diarmuid is a Senior Lecturer at Deakin University Medical School. A fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine at ANZCA he is a member of the Training Unit Assessment Committee and the Victoria Regional Committee of FPM He Chairs the Professional Standards Committee at the faculty. Diarmuid has been an examiner at the faculty for the past 10 years. He is frequently asked to speak at state, national and international meetings including the Australian Pain Society Canberra 2013 and the Annual Scientific meeting of ANZCA in Australia Hong Kong New Zealand, Kuala Lumper and Singapore . He has authored a number of peer reviewed papers and a book chapter on the subject of pain. He is also an Independent Medical Examiner for Transport Accident Victoria and WorkSafe. He has been asked to give professional and expert opinions in criminal trials in Victoria, personal injury matter in a number of states and for the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority. His current appointments are at Epworth Group of Hospitals, Health Scope Group of Hospitals, St John of God Health and Ramsey Group. His interest and expertise are in persistent pain managed in a multidisciplinary setting and with over 20 years experience in the use of neuromodulation, he has a specific interest in appropriate selection of patients for this type of treatment.

Dr Richard Talbot

Richard Talbot is a Consultant Anaesthetist and Specialist Pain Medicine Physician who has practiced in Geelong since 2008. He qualified from University College Dublin in 1998 and initially commenced in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine in 1999 and commenced work in Pain Medicine in 2004. He completed fellowships in Ireland and then completed further fellowships in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine here in Australia which included further training in Paediatric Pain Management. Dr Talbot has interests in Education and Research and is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Deakin University Medical School. Dr Talbot is an examiner at the Faculty of Pain Medicine ANZCA. He has presented at a number of meetings nationally and internationally and has authored a number of papers and a book chapter on the subject of pain. In addition to his work at Pain Matrix, Dr Talbot works in both Anaesthesia and Pain Management at University Hospital Geelong.

Dr Williemena Ong Pain

Geraldine Nolan

Geraldine has over 20 years of experience working as a registered psychologist in a variety of settings, responding to individuals presenting with a range of concerns. She has worked in several states employed in a range of settings including rehabilitation as well as provided assessment, training and support services to ADF members for many years. Additionally, she has worked with managers and leaders to guide both skill development and self awareness, particularly in relation to strengths and emotional intelligence. At Pain Matrix Geraldine has supported patients with a range of approaches including CBT and ACT, with a focus on developing insight linked with pain education. She has supported people to identify their strengths and encourages goal setting that is realistic for each individual. She has experience supporting patients with complex circumstances to achieve positive outcomes and sees the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary setting as a key aspect that supports clients to make meaningful progress.

Jim Phillips

Jim Phillips is an experienced pain psychologist and cbt practitioner. He is a member of both the Australian Pain Society and the Australian Psychological Society. His training has included Multidisciplinary Pain Management and CBT and Pain at the Pain Management Research Institute at the University of Sydney. Additionally, Jim is trained in Third Wave cognitive behavioural therapies including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, MetaCognitive Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Jim is also a trained and experienced Eye-Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and Hypnosis practitioner. He has worked in several states and internationally, and has worked extensively with first-responders in a range of contexts. Jim is an experienced Trauma Therapist and has been trained in the most current Cognitive Processing Therapy techniques, and is actively interested in both Transdiagnostic treatment protocols and Process-Based CBT.

Sally is a Registered Nurse who since completing her degree through Deakin University, has gone on to further her study, obtaining a degree in Psychology and postgraduate studies in Perioperative Nursing. Sally joined the Pain Matrix practice in 2022 and brings with her 20 years of nursing experience from many areas across the healthcare setting.
