Catherine Evans

Catherine joined the NHS in 2003 after graduating from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff with a BSc (Hons) in Food Studies. She started in Bridgend Local Public Health Team as a Public Health Practitioner and worked on a range of health improvement initiatives with a main focus on physical activity and nutrition. Catherine was seconded to Bridgend Healthy Schools Scheme between 2010 and 2012 where she worked with schools to promote all aspects of health to pupils, school staff and the wider community. During her time in Bridgend LPHT Catherine achieved a diploma in Public Health at Cardiff University. In 2012 Catherine started her role as the Physical Activity Network Co-ordinator and is now one of the Public Health Network Cymru Coordinators based within the Wider Determinants of Health Unit in the Health and Wellbeing Directorate.

Christian has worked within the NHS for 19 years in public health intelligence and health improvement.

Dr Ciarán Humphreys

Job Titles:
  • Consultant in Public Health Medicine
Ciarán is a Consultant in Public Health Medicine, working in the field of health inequalities and wider determinants of health. After completing general medical training in Ireland, he began his specialist training in public health in Wales in 2002, spending a year developing community based HIV services in the Lubombo region, Kingdom Eswatini (formerly Swaziland). He has substantial experience in using data and evidence to inform public health action, playing a key role in the establishment of the Child Measurement Programme for Wales, the Public Health Outcomes Framework for Wales and the Public Health Wales Observatory. After four years seconded as Director of Health Intelligence for Public Health Wales, he changed roles in order to establish and lead the Wider Determinants of Health Unit in 2019.

Emma Girvan
