Carlene has been representing victims of medical negligence for 18 years. In her early years, Carlene specialized in birth trauma litigation. Since that time, she has expanded her medical knowledge and experience to handle complex medical cases involving cardiology, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, surgery, and nursing home neglect.
Carlene has handled cases in the State Courts throughout Michigan, as well as the Federal District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. She has also handled cases in the Michigan Court of Appeals and Michigan Supreme Court.
Over the years, Carlene has been instrumental in securing several multi-million dollar settlements for birth injury plaintiffs. So far in 2014, she has proven to be a successful trial attorney and has secured settlements for medical malpractice claims in excess of $1 million.

Cy Weiner is a partner at the Law Office of Cy Weiner with offices in Michigan and Illinois. His practice is concentrated in personal injury with a current primary focus on medical malpractice. The law firm, with 7 highly skilled lawyers, 2 registered nurses, and 5 legal assistants, handles the gamut of injury cases including workers compensation, social security disability, auto accidents, products liability, and general negligence matters.
Cy has handled mass tort and class action lawsuits, protecting the rights of property owners, minorities and consumers. Corporate polluters, drug manufacturers and medical device makers have been the target of his firm's successful litigation efforts.
Several of the law firm's cases and legal work have achieved national significance and, to some extent, have made an international impact. Cy was lead counsel for the County of Wayne, in conjunction with Detroit, in what became nationally known as the "Firearms Litigation." The City of Detroit and Wayne County sued gun manufacturers and dealers for distributing guns illegally throughout the metropolitan Detroit area, leading to a demonstrable increase in violent crime. The case, and the undercover legal work behind it, was featured on Dateline NBC. It was landmark litigation in the area of public nuisance. The theory against the gun industry of "willful blindness," developed by Cy and law professor Sherman Clark from the University of Michigan Law School, was adopted by cities across the country. Cy received an award from the nationally known, Washington D.C. based, Brady Gun Control Campaign, for his work in this area.
International impact came from Cy's representation of famed Columbian Judge Consuelo Sanchez Duran, who indicted the world's leading narcoterrorist, Pablo Escobar. Judge Duran became a target of cartel hit squads after she bravely took on the Columbian cocaine cartels in her own country and was secretly moved by the U.S. government to Detroit when she and her family became assassination targets. Cy represented the judge in civil litigation involving those security threats and the conduct of American news agencies which compromised her security. Successful litigation against one agency connected with her security detail was accomplished. A movie was released about the matter, with a book and movie about Judge Duran's Detroit activities currently in the works.
Cy successfully represented dozens of plaintiffs in pharmaceutical and medical litigation over the years against manufactures of Vioxx, "FenPhen," Redux, Baycol, Ephedrine, and Sulzer hip implants, among others. His office obtained millions of dollars in compensation for victims of defective drugs and devices.
Cy also provided pro bono legal services to Michigan families who lost loved ones in the New York City World Trade Center attack and recovered millions of dollars in compensation for his clients through the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. He was recognized for his efforts by the State Bar president in 2004, and honored by the City of Southfield Mayor, American Trial Lawyers Association, and the Detroit News, for his legal service contribution.
As a trial lawyer, Cy has been a member of ABOTA for many years, invited to join the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and became a Super Lawyer, after having secured dozens of significant jury verdicts, many in excess of $1 million dollars, and greater, in sophisticated, complex, medical, auto, and other injury cases. He is rated by Martindale- Hubbell AV Pre-eminent, the highest peer review ranking.
Cy prides himself on being active and having success in the appellate courts. He personally has argued more than a dozen cases in the Michigan Court of Appeals, as well as the Michigan Supreme Court. Cy is a member of the Supreme Court Guild, open only to lawyers who have participated in oral argument before the Supreme Court. Several of his Michigan Supreme Court cases reflect important rulings in favor of his clients. Two important jurisprudential issues involving personal injury cases are currently pending in the Supreme Court, with oral argument scheduled for fall term 2014. One First Amendment religious freedom tort case is the subject of a current U.S. Supreme Court Certiorari appeal as of September 2014.
Of all accomplishments mentioned, Cy is most proud of his personal life. His wife of over 33 years is an accomplished artist, and his 2 sons are successful in their own right, one having acted as law clerk for the Chief U.S. Court of Appeals Judge for the 7th Circuit and now a practicing lawyer in a major multi- state law firm. His other son also is an accomplished lawyer and owner of an innovative national company, Med Lien Solutions, negotiating settlement liens for mass tort lawyers across the country.
