George Baxter

As Director of Development, George leads the team on delivering greenfield wind and solar developments both in the UK and Ireland, plus identifies opportunities to work on re-powering of old projects. George joined us from SSE and has significant experience, drive and enthusiasm that is instrumental in leading our renewables development strategy. In addition to playing a key role in delivering consents and a construction pipeline of over 3.5GW of renewable energy and storage projects, George has significant experience in public affairs (government relations), media and PR work. Having worked for the Green Party and with WWF Scotland and Friends of the Earth Scotland he is no stranger to battling for the environment. His wealth of expertise is invaluable in engaging with others to tackle the climate emergency that is facing us all. As Director of Development, George will be leading the team on delivering greenfield wind and solar developments both in the UK and Ireland, plus identifying opportunities to work on re-powering of old projects.

James Simpson - CFO

Job Titles:
  • Finance Director
As Finance Director James is responsible for all financial matters including preparation of management accounts, annual statutory accounts, long term budgetary control and financial planning, taxation, board reports, company secretarial, cash-flow and treasury management. As a Qualified Accountant (FCCA) and Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) James has significant experience in financial management and control having worked for over 20 years in various senior finance positions including 3 years within an energy sector business. James has significant funding experience including working on an Initial Public Offering, various re-banking agreements, several significant leasing transactions and other finance raising projects. He has also worked on several corporate transactions including transactions within a listed plc.

John Morgan

Job Titles:

John Morgan, Director, contributes to GreenPower's strategic business development and has specific responsibility for engineering and technical matters. As a chartered electrical engineer John manages the technical and contractual negotiations of GreenPower's grid connection contracts. He manages civil and electrical engineering contractors, advising GreenPower's project companies on project design and delivery. John regularly represents GreenPower at public events, including planning and community meetings. Previously John worked as a design engineer on a range of hydro power and landfill gas projects with responsibility for project design, specification, procurement, installation and commissioning. He has also acted as Bank's engineer in construction due diligence. Outside of work, John rides a tandem and enjoys salsa dancing, though not at the same time. As a GreenPower Director, John is involved in strategic business development as well as having specific responsibility for commercial contracts including grid connection and turbine procurement. In addition he has responsibility for project budget control and investor reporting.

Rob Forrest - CEO

Outside of work, Rob is a keen follower of cycle racing, having raced in his twenties, and rides his mountain bike, as often as he can (which is never enough). He enjoys spending time with his family, travelling and is also a keen hill walker. Rob Forrest is the owner and Chief Executive of GreenPower. He established the GreenPower group in 2000; prior to this he ran a consultancy business which provided services to the wind, hydro and solar industries. Rob has worked in renewable energy since 1985 and his experience covers projects across Europe, the USA and South America. In 1999 Rob was a founding director of Scottish Renewables and its first Chief Executive. In 2016 Rob returned to the board and in 2018 was elected Chair. He resigned as Chair and from the Board in February 2021, in order to devote more time to GreenPower and to focus on more effective direct advocacy for onshore renewables. He has served on various government and industry bodies, including the Scottish Government's ministerial advisory group, the ‘Forum for Renewable Energy Development in Scotland'; as a director of the Scottish Energy Industries Group; and was founding secretary of the Scottish Parliaments ‘Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Group' (SPREEE).
