I was born and raised in Ponoka. I did leave the county limits for a short stint where I headed to Calgary to obtain my Bachelor of Commerce and pursue my CA designation. Upon the completion of my CA designation in 1998 I returned to Central Alberta to get out of the city and to work at a small rural Chartered Accounting office to gain exposure to agriculture and small business. I eventually found my way back to Ponoka to join the Rowland and Parker team. I became a partner of Rowland Parker in 2000 and continue to enjoy the diversity a small rural practice has to offer. My practice focus is primarily on small businesses as I enjoy the energy of entrepreneurs and the exposure to a variety of industries, including medical practices, agriculture, retail, oil and gas, and owner managed small business. The best part of my job is the exposure we get to all aspects of operating a business, including taxation, finance, and everything in between. In my spare time I enjoy the gym, spending time at the lake with my kids, and being outside away from my desk.

My husband and I returned to Alberta in 2017, moving to Ponoka from Summerside, PEI to be in a central location closer to children and grandchildren. Over many years, I have worked my way up in the accounting industry to Senior Technician, and when given the opportunity in October 2018 to work for Rowland Parker & Associates and be close to home, there really was no decision to be made. I am very excited for the opportunity to continue my career in accounting in such a great work environment. Our combined family now has 7 children and 14 grandchildren, all living in various communities in Alberta, except one son, daughter-in-law, and 3 granddaughters who live in Tampa, Florida. A great excuse for a travel destination. We love to spend time with our family and friends and when time permits a little golf and curling.

I grew up on a small farm in rural Saskatchewan and moved to Alberta to attend post-secondary. After college, I started working in the agricultural industry where I met my husband Kyler. We were married in 2017 and we now live about 20 minutes east of Ponoka. I joined the RPA team in March 2022 and I love working alongside this incredible group of people. When I'm not at the office, I love spending time with family. I also enjoy spending time outdoors - my favourite activities are camping, biking, skiing… although if the weather is foul, I can often be found curled up with a good book!

Debbie Derwantz

I grew up in the County of Stettler on a farm, I married and moved to Whitecourt where we resided for 15 years. My husband accepted a transfer to the Joffre plant and we now live in Lacombe County and enjoy being back in central Alberta and closer to family. I started in the CGA program before I had children and thought I would have lots of free time to complete once they were born. My goal then changed to get my degree and designation before any of them completed University and I did accomplish this. I have worked in public and the private sector both before joining Rowland Parker & Associates. In my spare time I enjoy any outdoor activity and adventure travel.

I started working at Rowland Parker & Associates during the income tax season of 2003. That same year my husband, Shawn and I had our first child, and I spent the next 11 years at home raising our two boys. I began working for RPA again in February of 2014. I grew up on a farm near Blackfoot, Alberta, where my parents and brothers still farm. I met my husband while I was still in high school, so decided to attend Medicine Hat College so that he wouldn't have to make the 5 hour drive every other week to come visit me. We got married in 1996 and moved to Lethbridge so that he could attend University. We moved a few more times before settling in Ponoka in 2002. In my spare time I enjoy dancing, visiting with family and friends, and playing with our very busy border collie, Lily.

I started at Rowland Parker & Associates in June 2014. When the opportunity presented itself I chose to switch jobs due to the great work atmosphere offered at the firm. I am married to Joanne, a now retired school teacher here in Ponoka, and we have 4 grown children, and 8 grandchildren. I recently retired from the partnership and currently act as an Associate with the firm, which is allowing me less and less time spent in the office, and more time for pursuing things I enjoy such as golf and travelling, and spending time at our lake lot.

I was born in Ponoka, spent my school years in Wetaskiwin, college in Red Deer, and ultimately returned to Ponoka in 1988. I started working at Rowland Parker & Associates in January of 1989, starting with T4/T5 prep, then as tax season staff, and moved into an admin position following tax season that same year. I was born and raised in Ponoka but moved to Edmonton for a short time to obtain my Bachelor of Management degree with a Major in Accounting. I live in Ponoka County with my husband Jesse, and our boys Winston and Flint. In our spare time you will find us outside, most likely doing something with our kids and horses. I obtained my CA designation in 2010 and started with Rowland Parker & Associates shortly after. My practice has a nice mix of profit and not-for-profit clients, providing them with advisory, accounting, assurance, and tax services. The business advisory part of my practise I find to be very rewarding. I love to guide clients through all the unknowns that come with the various stages of their business and life cycles. In recent years I have started presenting to groups on the topic of wills and estate planning. This is an important yet hard topic that the majority of people tend to put off, so it is rewarding to work with clients and see their wishes executed. Lastly, I also work closely with the firm's students that are pursuing their accounting designations to provide them with mentorship and instruction.
