Amy Gibson - CFO

Amy is responsible for the Airport Authorities financial management and full cycle accounting functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, planning, and analysis.

Benjamin Nycum

Job Titles:
  • Chairman, Capital Projects Committee Nominee
Benjie is an architect who leads William Nycum + Associates, a Halifax-based architecture, planning, and project management firm. Benjie is an Adjunct Professor and Chair of the Professional Practice Teaching Group at Dalhousie University Faculty of Architecture and serves as an Instructor for the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Design and Construction Institute, and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Chris de Man

Job Titles:
  • Director, Air Service
Chris is responsible for leading the development and implementation of new air service routes, as well as maintaining and growing existing routes for the Airport Authority.

Craig Paul

Job Titles:

Craig is responsible for managing the technology used to facilitate passenger travel and providing the vision for HIAA's information technology environment, including strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of activities.

Daniel Holland

Job Titles:

Daniel is CEO of Community Foundation of Nova Scotia and Principal & Director of Solais Partners. Daniel also serves on the Board of Directors for Beacon Securities Limited.  He is Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for McGill Institute for the Study of Canada and is a member of the Board for the Immigration Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS).

Dean Bouchard

Job Titles:

Dean is responsible for the planning, development, management, and delivery of HIAA's capital projects which improve and expand the airport's facilities and infrastructure.

Diana Whalen

Job Titles:
  • Chartered Professional Accountant
Diana is a Chartered Professional Accountant with extensive experience in public service and management consulting. She served 17 years as an elected representative on Halifax city council and at the Nova Scotia Legislature, retiring as Deputy Premier and Cabinet Minister. She serves on the boards of Mount Saint Vincent University and the Nova Scotia Hospice Palliative Care Association. She is a founding board member of Friends of Blue Mountain-Birch Cove Lakes.

Doug Bastow

Job Titles:

Doug Bastow is a retired airline pilot. He spent 35 years in the airline business retiring in 2009 as a Director in the Flight Operations department of Air Canada. Doug sits on the Board of Directors for the North Colchester River Restoration Association, is a member of the Tatamagouche Source Water Protection Committee and the North Shore Refugee Settlement Group.

Jackie Poirier

Jackie is a retired federal executive who held senior roles with Canada Revenue Agency and Public Works and Government Services Canada. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) who serves on the Boards of CPA Nova Scotia, CPA Atlantic School of Business and Nova Scotia Community College.

Jeff MacMillan

Jeff is responsible for the day-to-day readiness of Halifax Stanfield including the development of staff, policies and procedures, maintenance systems, resources, and training for the operations department.

Jo-Anne McLean

Jo-Anne is responsible for advancing airport experience programs and services, and commercial activities at the airport.

John S. Fitzpatrick

John is a Senior Partner at BOYNECLARKE LLP, where he is the Chair of the firm's Creditor Practice Group. He was appointed Queen's Counsel (now King's Counsel) in 2008. John has significant community board governance experience. He served for 19 years on the Saint Mary's University Board of Governors, including four years as Board Chair. He is a past board member, and Governance Committee Chair, of ABC Life Literacy Canada and World Wildlife Fund Canada ("WWF"). He currently serves as a Director of the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation. John is the recipient of numerous community and professional awards.

Joyce Carter - CEO, President

Joyce joined HIAA in 1999 and, throughout her career, has been integral in HIAA's growth and development. In addition to leading an exceptional team at HIAA, Joyce is a board member of the Airports Council International (ACI) World Governing Board and past chair of the Canadian Airports Council and serves as Board Member and past President of the Board of Directors for the Atlantic Canada Airports Association. An accomplished leader, Joyce was named Business Leader of the Year by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce in 2019 and was recognized as one of Atlantic Canada's Top 50 CEOs by Atlantic Business Magazine in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Leah Batstone

Margaret is responsible for advising on all legal matters including contracts, leases, and procurement processes, and liaising with external legal counsel when required. As Corporate Secretary, Margaret prepares and maintains corporate records and advises the Board and Board Committees on governance matters.

Matthew Martel

Matthew is Chief Executive Officer for Black Business Initiative (BBI). Matthew currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Halifax Business Commission, Halifax Dance, and sits on the Advisory Boards for the Dalhousie Faculty of Management and Acadia University Institute for Data Analytics and is a Nova Scotia Economic Growth Council Member.
