Dr Aimen Hassani (Al-Hassani) - Our Anaesthetist
Dr Hassani was appointed as a Consultant Anaesthetist at Broomfield Hospital in May 1996. Over the years he led in many aspects of training, education, research and clinical governance.
Dr David O'Hara has been a Consultant in Anaesthesia at Broomfield Hospital since 2010. He qualified from University College London Medical School and completed specialist training in Anaesthesia at Barts and The London hospitals.
Dr O'Hara undertook advanced fellowships at the world-famous St Andrew's Plastic Centre in Chelmsford and at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. He also worked for New Zealand's Air Ambulance service.
His specialist interests include anaesthesia for laparoscopic ‘keyhole‘ surgery, upper GI surgery and plastic surgery. He has particular expertise in pre-operative assessment of surgical patients including cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and lectures nationally and internationally on this subject.
Dr Niven Akotia qualified from St George's Medical School, University of London in 2002. He began his specialist training in Anaesthesia with the South Coast School of Anaesthesia.

Mr Lorenzi is the Director and Founder of Essex Surgical Specialists.
He qualified with honours at the University of Siena, in Italy (the eighth oldest university in the world, founded in 1240). He has gained wide experience in general, laparoscopic and upper GI Surgery in renowned centres in the USA (Cleveland Clinic in Florida), France (Istitut Paoli-Calmettes in Marseille) and UK (Oxford, Leeds, Royal Marsden and Imperial College in London) before moving to Chelmsford in 2014.
He works as Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon at Broomfield Hospital and has practice privileges at Ramsay Springfield Hospital and Phoenix Hospital, Chelmsford.
Mr Lorenzi is an internationally recognised surgeon and has been an invited speaker at national and international conferences. He completed his PhD in collaboration with the University of Oxford and publishes regularly in peer reviewed surgical papers. He also gives teaching sessions on minimally invasive surgery at Anglia Ruskin University and Imperial College in London.
Mr Lorenzi has specific interests in day surgery, laparoscopic 'keyhole‘ surgery, upper GI endoscopy and surgery. He has performed over three thousand open and laparoscopic operations with great success and excellent feedback from his patients. Over 90% of his patients undergoing hernia or gallstones surgery have gone home just few hours after the procedure.
Bruno is a keen tennis player having played an ATP doubles match in 2014 partnering with his brother Paolo, a professional player. He currently enjoys padel tennis and running in the beautiful Essex countryside.
Sam Thornton is our Business Manager. She has over 25 years of experience working with medical specialists. She completed a full time college course and acquired a Medical Secretarial Diploma (AMSPAR - Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Administrators and Receptionists) in 1987.
