ALBERTA CONSERVATION

Area 5 on the Golden Ranches Conservation Area is located along the eastern shores of Cooking Lake. It was a cultivated field, with pockets of dry mixedwood boreal forest. The Golden Ranches partner organizations, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Alberta Conservation Association, Alberta Fish Game Association, and Edmonton Area Land Trust had a dream to restore the 55-hectare area one day to improve the conservation values on the property. In 2019, the Golden Ranches partner organizations teamed up with Ducks Unlimited Canada to restore the wetlands that would have historically been on the property. In 2021, the partners have teamed up with Project Forest to restore the 55-hectare field to dry mixedwood boreal forest habitat!... We are happy to support Indigenous harvesting and honour their right to steward their traditional territories.
