Barry Wilkinson

Barry has spent decades consulting with professional service firms. He has an extensive record in supporting clients to: Prepare for mergers and acquisitions Overhaul cost structures Improve cash flow After starting his career as a financial analyst, Barry worked as a financial director within the RTZ (now Rio Tinto) group, where he specialised in turning unprofitable companies around. He built on this experience when he founded his own firm in the early 1990s. Barry uses his background in business analytics to help drive improved profitability. Barry's data-driven approach has saved his clients millions of pounds across all areas of their cost structures. He works both strategically and creatively to identify areas for growth and boost cash flow. One of the ways Barry seeks to support his clients is by investigating opportunities for mergers and acquisitions. Thanks to his ability to bring partners together, he has played an instrumental role in preparing countless firms for mergers or to acquire rival firms. Barry is a Fellow and former Area President of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Mark has extensive experience in the professional partnership sector. He supports law firms and other professionals to manage: Mergers, acquisitions and sales Firm restructures Partnership/LLP exits and disputes Partnership conversions As a solicitor with a background in corporate law, Mark is a founding partner of Bennett Briegal, a specialist legal firm advising law firms, doctors, professionals and entrepreneurs. Alongside his mergers and acquisitions work, Mark deals with company matters, the preparation of shareholder agreements and commercial contracts, partner exits and the conversion of partnerships and sole traders into LLPs or limited companies. He also advises on incorporating law firms into Employee Ownership Trusts. Mark's clients appreciate his pragmatic approach, whatever the scenario and for whichever party he's acting. In dispute situations, his aim is to resolve conflict as quickly and painlessly as possible, all whilst ensuring the best possible outcome. In addition to his client work, Mark also set up and chaired the North-West branch of the Association of Partnership Practitioners and now sits on its main committee. His book, A Concise Guide to Solving Partnership and LLP Disputes Without Litigation, was published by Law Brief Publishing in 2021. Nigel Haddon

Nigel has been working as a consultant in the legal sector for a decade. Throughout this time, he's focused on three key areas: Mergers and acquisitions Value pricing Supporting law firm leadership teams as a critical friend Before becoming a consultant, Nigel was a managing partner of a flourishing North-West law firm. During this time, he took the lead on four successful acquisitions. Thanks to a keen interest in the cultures of law firms, a knack for helping to plan post-merger integration and the ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles during negotiations, Nigel has continued to work in the field. He is available to act on behalf of both buyers and sellers, or as an impartial honest broker. In addition to the support Nigel offers in mergers and acquisitions, he is also well known for his expertise in value pricing. To date he has trained more than a hundred law firms on the subject and has presented keynotes at conferences throughout the UK and Europe. Nigel is a contributing editor of the Law Society's Merger Toolkit and formerly chaired the society's Law Management Section. He is also a teaching fellow at the College of Law, Australia, where he delivers the pricing module of their Master of Legal Business degree.

Tom Blandford

Tom is a chartered accountant specialising in delivering strategic finance projects to law firms. After nearly twenty years in the industry, his areas of expertise include: Mergers and acquisitions Tax structuring KPIs, bonus schemes and partnership remuneration strategies Accounts and tax returns Originally, Tom trained with PriceWaterhouseCooper's professional practices team, where he worked with large firms like DLA Piper and Ince. He went on to become a partner in Armstrong Watson's specialist legal sector team, where he acted as lead partner for over fifty law firms. This extensive hands-on experience makes Tom very well placed to work with law firms to improve their financial strategy. His starting point is always to consider data-driven internal budgeting, forecasting and result monitoring, then to use this information to partner with the board and drive business performance forwards. In addition to his work with mergers, acquisitions and tax structuring, Tom offers a range of other strategic financial director services. This includes specialist law firm valuations and support with law firm incorporation. Many of Tom's clients benefit by working with him in a freelance finance director/CFO role. Tom was named Yorkshire Accountant of the Year in 2019, though he works with clients both nationally and internationally. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a member of the Chartered Management Institute and holds a graduate diploma in Mergers and Acquisitions from Imperial College Business School. He is a former committee member of the Association of Law Firm Merger Advisors.
