I love the overall approach of Thomas Edison, and find that the early phonogram program delivers excellent decoding skills for up and coming readers. Great readers become avid learners! I also value the early emphasis on handwriting, particularly cursive (a now dying art). Teaching middle school Language Arts is a delight, as we explore literature and writing together as a class. I love the parent support at Thomas Edison, and find that our students are well-prepared for high school and beyond. Kids have a natural curiosity that is a gift, and I relish in exploring books, ideas, and opinions with them at school.
Gardening, music, and travel are major passions of Amber Olsen. In high school her favorite book was "The Count of Monte Cristo". As an adult, she loves too many books to name, though she tends to favor realistic fiction. She is also a huge fan of her family, her husband and her 4 children. All of her kids have attended Thomas Edison from kindergarten through middle school.
A dream that Mrs. Olsen has is to visit Iceland and the Scandinavian Countries. If she could build a dreamhouse, it would be a massive treehouse in a mixed forest of deciduous and pine. She wishes her kids didn't grow up so fast, but loves watching them sprout like weeds anyway. She feels like everyone has a valuable story worth telling, you just need to take the time to get to know them. She can communicate telepathically with cinnamon bears, and is surprised they tend to always tell her they want to be eaten.

I love working here because I am challenged to go above and beyond in all aspects of my position. The atmosphere is one of hard work and dedication and I truly enjoy helping teachers rise to their fullest potential.
I love music, traveling, art museums, the look of a new manicure, ice cream, the color black, nugget ice, yoga, well designed typography, the fall, organizing, practicing my Spalding handwriting, hot springs, lasagna, lightning storms at night, Tim Burton's artwork, early mornings, road trips, rock climbing, puzzles, sunrises, sunsets, board games and generally doing things that are new. When I first interviewed at Thomas Edison it was immediately apparent that this school was set apart from the rest. Thomas Edison Charter School holds high academic standards and supports a community mindset. I instantly fell in love with the school's atmosphere and knew I had to work here! Since being hired I have witnessed and benefited from the amazing support of the administration and other staff. This school is a dream come true.
I am happily married to my high school sweetheart. We have three amazing kids and two fun-loving dogs. We love to camp and spend our time together outside when the weather is nice and we enjoy skiing together when it snows. I enjoy reading anything and everything.
I grew up in Southern California and moved to Utah my second year of college. I absolutely love living here and wouldn't change that decision for anything. I got my degree from USU in Technical Writing which I did for a few years. It was during this career path that I realized my favorite part about all of my jobs has been teaching and training people. That is when I decided to become a teacher. I was hired at Thomas Edison and have loved everyday since.

I love working at Thomas Edison Charter School for so many reasons. I feel supported, as well as trusted by administration, and the teachers that I work with here are like family. However, above everything else, the students that I am blessed to work with are the main reason that I love coming into work each day!
I was born and raised in Southeast Idaho, and my large, beautiful family is easily the most important thing in my life. I owe everything that I am to my parents and siblings. I think that I am a simple man with a quirky personality, and I try not to take life too seriously. I absolutely "geek-out" over history, animals, and nature. My hobbies include, but aren't limited to, golfing, jamming out to music (country is superior), and spending time doing anything with my buddies and family. I love trying new things, and I live my life based on one of many mottos, "I ain't scared of nothing (except for rodents)".

I love working at Thomas Edison Charter School because of the positive environment. I feel appreciated and valued.
One of my passions is helping struggling students succeed. When I was in high school, my cousin was diagnosed with severe disabilities. I developed a close bond with her as I helped provide care for her. Watching her experience with preschool and special education inspired me to pursue a degree in Special Education. That is where my passion for working with students began.
I stayed at home with my children for many years, but always helped in their classrooms. When my youngest went to Kindergarten, a friend of mine asked me what I was going to do with my time. My response was "Go with her." That is what I did. I have been employed at Thomas Edison Charter School in many capacities since that time. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with such amazing students, parents, and coworkers.
