Dr. Tyler A. Ptacek

Dr. Tyler Ptacek joined his family in the Black Hills in 2020 where he founded the Interventional Pain Department at Rapid City Medical Center. He enjoys combining the combining of the art and science of modern medicine into improving people's lives and providing high quality care to the local communities. Dr. Tyler A. Ptacek (pronounced: Ta-Check) joined Rapid City Medical Center as double Board Certified pain specialist and founder of the Interventional Pain department. Dr. Ptacek is excited to be in the Black Hills and is in some ways "coming home" to be close to his family. He was raised along with his two brothers and sister in O'Neill, Nebraska - a town of about 3,500 people. It was during this time that he was influenced by his father practicing medicine as a small town family doctor. This experience is a big part of why he enjoys the combining of the art and the science of modern medicine into improving people's lives. After earning his bachelor's degree in chemistry, he attended medical school at the University of Nebraska followed by an internship at the University of Kansas- Wichita. Dr. Ptacek completed his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE, and his Interventional Pain Fellowship at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC. Dr. Ptacek describes his bedside manner as open and relaxed. He recommends common sense treatments with the goals of decreasing pain and increasing function. He likes to start his visits by trying to understand what is important to the patient. He is passionate about quality care and staying up-to-date with the newest treatments and technology. Dr. Ptacek currently serves in the United States Air Force Air National Guard as a Flight Surgeon. He and his wife Melanie are blessed with two boys and one girl. They enjoy traveling, hiking, snowboarding, and flying small aircraft.

Katie Bates

Katie Bates was born and raised in SD. She graduated from the Mount Marty bachelors of nursing program in 1992. After working 12 years as a nurse in the Cardiac ICU and Cardiac Cath Lab setting Katie obtained her anesthesia degree from Mount Marty College in 2010. She has worked at Monument Health as a CRNA from 2010 until her moving to the Plastic Surgical Center of Rapid City in 2020. Katie is a mother to 4 children and is married to Doug who works as a Lumber Broker with Forest Products distributors. Katie enjoys reading, traveling, hanging with her dogs and any outdoor activities that take her into the beautiful Black Hills. She is the president of the Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Rapid City chapter which is a non-profit that makes beds for kids who do not have beds of their own. Katie enjoys working at the Plastic Surgical Center because she is able to care for the patient throughout the entire surgical experience, this gives her the opportunity to really get to know the patient, their family and share in their experience.

Mary C. Snyder

Dr. Snyder is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. She is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. She has special interests in breast reconstruction, breast enhancement and body contouring. She has been in plastic surgery since 2005. Prior to joining the Rapid City Medical Center she served as assistant professor in plastic surgery and otolaryngology - head and neck surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Snyder is an active member of the Eduplast Foundation and has made several Mission trips to Nicaragua to provide reconstructive surgery to underserved children and adults with facial clefts, burns and injuries. Outside of her practice she spends as much time as possible with family and enjoys riding horses, running, cooking and traveling.
