As an African American man, I am acutely aware of the toll racism plays in our society, particularly with people of color. Poverty, stress, trauma - indicators of systemic racism - when experienced in early childhood, negatively alter the genetic response to hypertension and diabetes resulting in damage to the targeted organ. My commitment is to improve the health of people of color by addressing and raising awareness of the systematic and systemic racial and economic inequalities that plague communities of color. ¨
