Alison Rivera

Dr. Alison Rivera joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2018. She earned her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans. She has clinical interests in sports medicine and preventative care, including vaccination and oral health.

Allison Ignacio

Allison Ignacio joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2022 as a Registered Dental Hygienist. She earned her Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene from University of Hawaiʻi Maui College. She is passionate about helping her patients form healthy oral habits and creating a comfortable dental experience, especially for those who have dental anxiety. It is incredibly rewarding for her when she is able to help her patients overcome their fear and create a positive experience.

Amy Nakama

Amy Nakama has been a part of Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center since 2019 as a Family Nurse Practitioner and currently serves as the Department Head for Adult Medicine. Amy earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Olivet Nazarene University. Her clinical interests include HIV, gender-affirming and women's health care.

Andrew Van Wieren

Dr. Andrew Van Wieren joined the Mālama I Ke Ola team in 2022 as Chief Medical Officer. He earned his medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University and completed his primary care internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard Medical School. His clinical interests include care for the underserved or health equity, working with Spanish-speaking populations and chronic disease management.

Cassie Savell - COO

Cassie Savell has been with Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center since 2013, where she previously served as Assistant Chief Financial Officer. In 2016, she was named the Chief Operating Officer. Cassie earned a Master of Business Administration from Webster University, a Master of Health Administration from Louisiana State University and a Doctorate in Health Sciences at A.T. Still University. She has over 20 years of business administration experience including accounting, financial and economic reporting in addition to analysis, database management, project management, process improvement and budget and operational management.

Christina Nardi

Job Titles:
  • Family Nurse Practitioner
Christina Nardi joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2021 as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing and received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and FNP certification from University of San Francisco. Her clinical interests include preventive health care, mental health - the importance of achieving both physical and mental wellness - and reproductive health.

Dr. Aaron Altura

Dr. Aaron Altura has been an OB/GYN physician at Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center since January 1996. He received his medical degree from University of California, Davis School of Medicine and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Louisiana State University Medical Center. He is currently the OB/GYN department head at Mālama I Ke Ola and is dedicated to serving all residents of Maui from multi-ethnic backgrounds.

Dr. Casandra Simonson

Dr. Casandra Simonson has been a Pediatrician at Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center since 2014. She earned her medical degree from University of Kansas and completed her residency in pediatrics at Louisiana State University. Her clinical interests include reducing generational trauma, parenting, transgender care, neurodivergent children and vaccinating keiki to keep our vulnerable island safe.

Dr. Daniel Nead

Job Titles:

Dr. Daniel Nead joined Mālama I Ke Ola in 2017 as a Primary Care Psychologist before taking on the role of Integrated Health Director in 2019. He is a licensed psychologist who has worked in community health for over 10 years. He received his Doctorate from Gallaudet University and completed internship and postdoctoral training in community mental health, behavioral medicine and primary care behavioral health. His clinical interests include chronic disease management and integrated primary care.

Dr. Jaydene McDaniel

Dr. Jaydene McDaniel has been a part of Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center since 2021 as a board certified pediatric dentist. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from University of Nevada Las Vegas and completed a two year residency program in pediatric dentistry. Dr. McDaniel was born and raised in Hawaii and chose to return home and serve her community at Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center. Her clinical interests include providing a positive and comfortable dental experience for all of her patients. Dr. McDaniel is passionate about preventative care and forming healthy habits for a lifetime of good oral health.

Dr. Mark Breithaupt

Job Titles:

Dr. Mark Breithaupt joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2023 and brings a wealth of clinical experience and an extensive understanding of human nature. He earned his master's and doctorate degrees in clinical psychology from Alliant University, San Francisco. His clinical interests include emergent embodied therapies as well as established relational and cognitive approaches.

Dr. Sally Bowles

Dr. Sally Bowles joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2020 and is an established pediatrician, having worked on Maui since 2012. Dr. Bowles earned her medical degree from Penn State University College of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine at Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Her clinical interests include genetics and evidence based medicine.

Erik Russell

Dr. Russell joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2018 as an Internal Medicine Physician. He earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed his internal medicine residency at Franklin Square Medical Center.

Gabrielle O'Sullivan

Dr. Gabrielle O'Sullivan first joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2016. She earned her medical degree from University of Washington School of Medicine and completed her Family Medicine residency in Santa Rosa, California. Additionally, she completed a faculty development fellowship at the University of Washington.

Gerald Montano

Dr. Gerald Montano joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2023 as a Pediatrician. He earned his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed his residency in pediatrics at St. John Children's Hospital and a fellowship in adolescent medicine at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. His clinical interests include adolescent and young adult health, behavioral health, gender-affirming care and sexual/reproductive health.

Heather Milovina

Heather Milovina joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2019. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco with a specialty in Nurse-Midwifery and Women's Health. She has over 20 years of experience helping pregnant and birthing people and has cared for families across various healthcare settings. Her clinical interests include working with women and transpeople from puberty through menopause- offering reproductive health care, STI testing, annual exams and lactation support. She is grateful to be able to offer midwifery care at the clinic and to deliver babies at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Helen Barrow

Helen Barrow joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2010 as a Certified Tobacco Treatment Practitioner and expanded her practice in 2018 to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her Master of Social Work, specializing in behavioral mental health from the University of Hawai'i Manoa. She holds three certificates in tobacco treatment from the University of Arizona, the Mayo Clinic and a national certificate in tobacco treatment practice (NCTTP). She is passionate about helping clients let go of habits that no longer serve them so they can focus on the things that matter most.

Jaimie Johnson

Dr. Jaimie Johnson joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health center in 2014. She earned her medical degree from University of Florida College of Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Hawai'i. Dr. Johnson is passionate about promoting patient-centered education for prenatal care and maintaining a healthy and mindful lifestyle.

John Vaz - CEO

Dr. John Vaz joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2017 as the Chief Medical Officer. In July 2022, he was named the Chief Executive Officer. He earned his medical degree from St. John's National Academy of Health Sciences, India. He then completed a residency in Internal Medicine from the University of Connecticut, and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases from the University of Maryland. Following several years in clinical leadership, he graduated with a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. His clinical interests include HIV treatment and prevention (including PrEP), Hepatitis B and C management, LGBTQ care including gender-affirming care and medication-assisted treatment of substance use.

Kathleen Kearns

Dr. Kathleen Kearns joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2022. She earned her medical degree from University of California, San Francisco and completed her family medicine residency at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, CA. She is fluent in Spanish and her clinical interests include women's health, mental health, street medicine and LGBTQ+ care.

Lawrence Shin

Dr. Lawrence Shin joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2018. He currently serves as the Dental Director. He is a graduate of University of Texas Health Science Center's School of Dentistry in San Antonio and is currently pursuing his fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry. His clinical interests are oral surgery and restoration of missing teeth through the use of partial dentures, complete dentures bridges and dental implants.

Leonani Meyer

Leonani Meyer has been a part of Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center since 2018 as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with a concentration in Substance Abuse and Addiction Studies from University of West Oahu. She is passionate about her current work because it allows her to engage in community outreach, helping marginalized and unsheltered populations. She is dedicated to helping her patients get clean and sober, one step at a time.

Linda Kay Whitney

Linda Kay Whitney joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2016 as a human resources consultant, ultimately assuming the role of Director of Human Resources in 2018. She earned her Management degrees from University of Phoenix and Santa Barbara City College. She holds certification as Society of Human Resource Management - Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). Linda Kay has over 30 years of experience in Human Resources in California and Hawaii.

Maile Hayashida

Maile Hayashida joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in November 2019 and has 19 years of experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor. She earned her bachelor's degree in social science from the University of Hawai'i in 2012. Her clinical interests are harm reduction and medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

Michael Aaronoff

Dr. Aaronoff has been part of Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center since 2017. He earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Aaronoff is an academic who is passionate about teaching and educating students, residents, as well as his fellow colleagues.

Mikaila Samsen

Mikaila Samsen joined Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2023 as a Licensed Social Worker. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in social work from University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Her clinical interests include whole-person approach care for patients seeking behavioral health support. She hopes to eventually specialize in integrated women's health.

Monique van der Aa joined the executive team of Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center in 2018 as Chief Financial Officer. She earned her Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting in Christchurch, New Zealand and later became a Chartered Accountant. She brings 23 years of extensive experience working at Federally Qualified Health Centers in financial management, operations, electronic practice management systems and medical records, data collection and analysis.

Nadia Hussain

Nadia Hussain has been a part of Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center since 2021 as a Registered Dietician - Nutritionist. She earned her Master of Science degree in Nutrition from Herbert H. Lehman College and completed her residency in Dietetics. Her clinical interests include diabetes, chronic kidney disease, GI Health, hormonal health, functional nutrition, fertility, prenatal nutrition and sports nutrition; all while using a mindful and intuitive eating approach for all chronic health challenges. Nadia also has extensive knowledge in cultural nutrition, allowing her to work with patients of all cultures and with their respective food staples.

Paul Chung

Tamara Slay

Tamara is passionate about providing quality mental health care from a holistic person-centered approach.
