In 2011, when I started doing portraits, I had a "fake it till you make it" attitude when it came to building confidence in my own work. Realizing that something always looks off in my portraits and in a humorous way, and trying to get a fan base, I charged $1. They were notoriously bad, but all with an accurate likeness that was captured, and everyone wanted one. They used to be called $1 Portraits and I sold thousands of them for $1, for years, had two art shows in Los Angeles. I met my husband through this as he ordered a portrait from me... Two years later he found me through a dating app, (How About We) and in 2016 we got married. I painted all 80+ guests, and had the watercolor portraits out as place-cards to designate where guests are sitting.
