There he met Richard Carlson and in 1973 they opened their own firm, Whitlock, Carlson & Associates. The firm grew and weathered the ups and downs of the Alaskan economy, becoming a respected and integral part of the Anchorage accounting community... In 1992, after years of managing the firm Joe decided he was ready for a new challenge. Knowing only an artist who introduced him to a realtor, Joe opened a branch office in Jackson, WY, an area he and Julie had always liked and visited often... A big change occurred when Richard decided to move to North Carolina. The firm was sold and part of that deal was that Joe would return to Alaska for five years to help transition clients. Even then Joe and Julie knew they would return to the WY-ID area, especially since none of their children had returned to Anchorage.
