Alastair has over 30 years' experience in the construction industry with 19 years' experience working in Building Control. Prior to joining Shropshire Council, Alastair's previous employment included Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council and Vale Royal Borough Council.
Before joining the building control profession Alastair worked at Cheshire County Council in the Architectural and Building Services Department. In addition to his professional duties Alastair has also been a full-time lecturer in construction and professional studies at South Cheshire College.
Alastair is a corporate member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers and holds a BA (Hons) degree in architecture from John Moores University, Liverpool and has also successfully completed the LABC Level 6 fire safety assessment to demonstrate competence in higher risk and complex buildings.

Ben joined the Building Control team in 2020, having originally started working for Shropshire Council in 2016 in the HR department.
Ben is keen to deliver the best possible level of customer service and will answer any queries as fully and helpfully as he can, and welcomes any feedback to contribute to his continuing development and growing knowledge.
Ben is a qualified energy assessor, and is currently studying for a Level 4 qualification in Building Control Surveying with LABC.

Daniel joined Shropshire Council and the Building Control team in 2019 after leaving the Armed Forces.
Daniel is keen to add value to the Building Control team and to help the people of Shropshire wherever possible, he is eager to learn and develop as he continues his career with Shropshire Council. He is also a big supporter of the Armed Forces Covenant within Shropshire Council.
Daniel is currently training to become a Building Control Surveyor and looks forward to developing closer ties with the construction community in Shropshire.
In his spare time Daniel is still active with the Armed Forces community in Shropshire and enjoys walking in the Shropshire countryside and tabletop/digital wargaming.

Darren is a qualified Building Control Surveyor with over 30 years' experience in the construction Industry since gaining his Degree in Building Surveying at University of Central England, Birmingham and has a wealth of knowledge across a range of projects from small domestic, heritage to large industrial and commercial and has passion for developing positive professional relationships with builders, colleagues, professionals and clients.
He has a wealth of experience, not only more recently as Building Control Surveyor but also in his previous role in Property Services within the Authority as a Building surveyor he was responsible for the design and procurement of schools and public buildings across the county so he fully appreciated the challenges facing the design and construction team in trying to meet the expectations of the client and all other constraints whilst also ensuring that the project is delivered on time, to budget and achieves compliance.
Darren also brings with him experience gained as a building control Surveyor within the private sector and has returned to Shropshire Building Control and is excited about developing further skills and knowledge and is currently working towards enhancing his professional qualifications in anticipation of the introduction of Registered Building Inspectors within the New Fire Safety Bill.
Darren lives in South Shropshire and during his spare time enjoys walking and mountain biking the Shropshire Hills as well undertaking his own home improvements (with consent of course!).
