Sue has worked at Prestige Nursing & Care since 2018. She is a registered mental health nurse and has over 20 years' experience supporting individuals and families affected by dementia.
During this time, Sue has held positions in community mental health services, healthcare research and higher education. Her doctorate focused on resilience and well-being in friends and family members who provide care and support to a person living with dementia.
Sue's role at Prestige focuses on ensuring our services enable people with dementia to remain in their own homes, receiving person-centred care that builds their confidence, skills and promotes well-being. Sue set up a carers support group for families living with a rare dementia in 2017. This regional group is affiliated to Rare Dementia Support (RDS), a world-leading UK-based service provided by the UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC) funded by The National Brain Appeal.
She was a committee member on the recently published NICE Guideline for Supporting adult carers [NG150] and is currently working with the NICE Quality Standards Advisory Committee for this guideline. Sue has worked as a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission since 2013, supporting the Commission's regulatory activity in adult social care services for people with living dementia.
I have six years' nursing experience working with both adults and paediatrics of all ages with a range of complex physical, intellectual, emotional, and social needs, predominantly within a community setting in the private sector. I have worked at a brain injury unit, rehabilitating adults with acquired brain injuries, stroke and mental health conditions. I have a specialist interest in neurology, in particular epilepsy where I secured the post of an NHS epilepsy nurse specialist. I joined Prestige in January 2020 as a Regional Nurse. I really loved working in the community so worked as a District Nurse for many years as I particularly enjoyed looking after people in their own homes, rather than in a hospital setting. After I had my family, I started a nursing role with the leading palliative care charity, Marie Curie, providing palliative and terminal care, again for people in their own homes. I became involved in teaching both clinical skills and manual handling. I have now taught manual handling for 40 years and I am a member of the National Back Exchange. I am currently studying for a Master in Ergonomics and Human Factors (Community and Hospital Care). I became the Regional Nurse Trainer for Scotland in 2018 and Regional Nurse for Scotland in 2020. Sophie is a registered adult nurse with over 30 years' experience working within hospitals and in the community. Since qualifying at Leeds general Infirmary Sophie spent many years working in intensive care, she has also been a Nurse case manager for clients receiving complex care at home, a registered manager for adults receiving homecare, and latterly back in the NHS as a Matron in a large acute hospital trust.
Sophie's role at Prestige as part of the Clinical Team, means she is responsible for overseeing safe compassionate care for adult clients, including those with complex needs.
