Crawley Timber Company was founded shortly after the end of World War II in the mid 1940's by Steve Crawley's father, Stanford M. Crawley. Steve Crawley was born in Halifax County in 1944. He grew up working with his father. After college, Steve spent 14 years in the financial field. In 1978, Steve left the financial field and came back to work with his father, because of his father's failing health. Steve worked with his father until 1985, when Steve bought the company from his father. Steve continued to run it solely as a wood dealership. Then in September, 2002 Crawley Timber Company branched out and purchased logging equipment in order to do their own harvesting.
