Aisha Bukhari

Aisha brings a blend of technical and strategic expertise to her role at Greenplanet, where she serves as a project lead or senior consultant on selected initiatives. Her responsibilities encompass technical design and implementation, business development, and capacity-building. Aisha's professional journey has focused on climate action and social justice initiatives. Her experience is grounded in developing and implementing initiatives that deliver environmental, social, and economic impact. She loves taking fuzzy ideas and building them into something tangible, leveraging her technical and business know-how. She enjoys leading multi-stakeholder initiatives and dialogues, aimed at building consensus, developing new perspectives, and identifying pathways to solve big challenges. She has held a variety of roles at Toronto Hydro, MaRS Discovery District, Attollo - an ed-tech social enterprise that she co-founded - and Women In Renewable Energy (WiRE). Aisha holds a B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto, a M.Eng. in Electric Power Engineering from the University of Waterloo, and an M.B.A. from Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. She serves on the Board of Pembina Institute and is the Vice President and Executive Board member for WiRE.

Cait Steenbergen

As well as providing bookkeeping, administration and management for the Greenplanet virtual office, Cait provides ongoing research, presentation and procurement support in the area of energy efficiency and green building design. Cait has over 10 years of experience managing commercial and industrial real estate. She is passionate about human-centered design and energy efficient building operations and obtained a LEED Green Associate credential in 2019 through Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI). She is experienced in contract administration and project management and is currently studying accounting and bookkeeping technology at MacEwan University. Cait holds a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary.

Clayton Stafford - CTO

Clayton is responsible for overall business management and client project delivery. Clayton also plays an active role in client engagements, particularly at the strategic planning, project planning and initiation stages. His focus is on enabling smart people to do good work, supporting them as required, and getting out of the way when appropriate. Clayton is also a Project Manager for Three Nations Energy, working closely with the 3NE Board of Directors and other key community contacts in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta to oversee and manage clean energy projects in the community, such as the 3NE Solar Farm, Canada's largest remote community solar farm. Clayton Stafford has been leading the delivery of enterprise-class technology solutions for over 30 years. He has worked as a consulting practice manager, management consultant, and project manager - both as an independent consultant, and with multinational consulting firms - serving clients in various sectors, including telecommunications, energy, utilities, banking, education, health, and provincial government. He has also managed technology start-ups focused on enterprise application integration and distributed data storage systems. Clayton is a Professional Engineer and holds an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta, and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary. He has extensive experience helping businesses and institutions adapt to game-changing technologies, ranging from early pilot projects in Health and Education exploring the potential of the Internet to more recent work in business intelligence and data management solutions for large enterprises.

Jonathan Luckhurst

In between operating his own two businesses, Sea to Sky Botanics and Earthsmith, Jonathan is a consultant for Greenplanet Energy Analytics specializing in Sustainable Food Production. He was integral in setting up the Growcer Hydroponics Unit in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta and has trained Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation staff on how this unique system operates and how to plant, manage and harvest locally-grown food. Jonathan is also our expert on aquaponics and wicking bed systems, supporting work on the upcoming Sustainable Food Development Centre in Fort Chipewyan and community education initiatives. As a visual artist, Jonathan and has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and the Edmonton Arts Council. In 2015 he received a commission from the Art Gallery of Alberta and was invited to participate in the Vancouver Biennale international residency program. Jonathan received his BSc in Cell Biology-Genetics from the University of British Columbia. He is also a graduate of the Aquaponic Farming Course (2015, Denver, Colorado) and was instrumental in the construction of Canada's largest aquaponics facility to date.

Kevin Stafford

Kevin provides hands-on support for GEA's project work in First Nations communities, including on-the-ground facilitation and leadership of community engagement activities. He supports the capacity building objectives of GEA projects by planning, facilitating, and leading workshops, training sessions, and collaborative work activities with community members. Kevin also provides research support on specific topics in green energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainable technologies. Since 2019, Kevin has been working with Indigenous youth with a focus on promoting fitness and positive outdoor recreation experiences. Prior to joining Greenplanet Energy Analytics, Kevin studied Political Science and Biological Science at the University of Alberta.

Mary McGrath - CEO

Mary brings a diverse range of experience to Greenplanet's team to advance our capacity to design, develop, deliver high quality education programming that strengthens community energy and economic development projects. She lends her organizational development experience to make strategic connections and build relationships with stakeholders and investors. She shares 25 years of program design/delivery and non-profit management in the sustainability and education sectors. This includes leading the development of programs that combine education and environmental issues in Canada at the local, provincial and national levels, as well as in the Caribbean and West Africa. Mary's strategic planning and project management experience ranges from leading employee engagement programming within Unilever's Environmental and Corporate Affairs department to designing provincial citizen science programming at EcoSpark and national educational programming with Environmental Defence Canada and GreenLearning. She has used her entrepreneurial skills to lead several of these organizations through exceptional periods of growth as Executive Director and co-founded and was Executive Director of Canada's first crowd-funding platform - Small Change Fund. Mary has developed broad networks through her participation on a number of boards and grant making committees, including currently as a director of the Greenbelt Foundation, and has received awards including the Toronto Vital People Award and the Women in Social Entrepreneurship Award. She has a Double Honours Specialist degree in International Development and Environmental Studies, and fulfilled the requirements for a Masters of Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.

Megan Foster - COO

As our Senior Analyst, Megan works on many of our projects to analyze data, compile information and write and edit reports. Megan leads on education and training as part of our support for schools, delivers training on energy monitoring technology, and works with a team of staff to deliver educational products around climate science and clean energy concepts. Megan also leads on communications and engagement for Three Nations Energy, supporting the community of Fort Chipewyan on understanding the clean energy projects taking place in the community and supporting the 3NE Board by maintaining a website, Facebook page and building relationships in the community. Megan has over 13 years of experience working with environmental, government and planning organizations. She brings expertise in research, data management and analysis to our work, and plays a key role in supporting our renewable energy projects. She holds a B.Sc. in Physical Geography from the University of Calgary.

Pat Kiehlbauch

Ralph Makokis

Ralph brings invaluable depth to Greenplanet Energy Analytics by strengthening the team's own learning journey and capacity. He also offers GEA partners and clients his experience and expertise related to understanding, respecting, and engaging Northern and indigenous persons and communities, including First Nations, in climate action and sustainable community development. Ralph is passionate about land-based learning, community education, "training through to employment", and integrating culture and language learning with practical energy solutions. He has personal and professional experience with the complex realities and diverse needs and development requirements to address equality and equity challenges of the First Nation's community, Indian Residential School survivor emotional and behavioral results and reconciliation pathways. This further enhances Greenplanet Energy's knowledge and capacity for both indigenous and non-indigenous community engagement and service. As an accomplished Project Manager, Curriculum Writer, Community Liaison and Stakeholder Consultation Specialist, Ralph has over 25 years' experience in regulatory consultation, resource development, community affairs and stakeholder engagement, needs assessment, and facilitation. He is also a successful instructional designer and facilitator of cultural and technical training programs for First Nations and other audiences. Ralph has developed his skills with (and continues to be involved in) numerous board and consultant positions in First Nations and industry organizations, non-profits, and agencies. Ralph holds a master's degree in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Alberta and has also received training from Elders in traditional ecological knowledge, Aboriginal education, traditional and modern Cree language and translation, and traditional communication.

Rion Schulz

As a Technology & Business Analyst, Rion works on compiling background information and data, as well as creating smaller pieces significant to larger projects. Rion is skilled in creating technical and informative background documents, educational fact sheets/reports and numerical calculators and models. Throughout his time at Greenplanet Energy Analytics, Rion has supported several projects under the categories of green energy, energy efficiency, electrification, energy storage, green hydrogen, electric vehicles and many more. The objective of Rion's work is to raise awareness and promote the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies and behaviors through the research and analysis of these opportunities, alongside their qualitative and numerical results. Rion is a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Alberta who has worked in the green energy sector as a researcher and analyst for three years. Prior to this, he worked in the fast-food industry and volunteered throughout his local community, while remaining engaged in athletics. Additionally, he is the recipient of the highly coveted Schulich Leader Scholarship, the University of Alberta Gold Standard Scholarship and the University of Alberta Faculty of Engineering Gold Standard Scholarship. After graduation, Rion plans to work for a few years before returning to school to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) to further propel his career in the energy industry, aspiring to act as a driving force for environmentally friendly energy alternatives.

Rob Macintosh

As Senior Partner, Rob offers our clients the benefit of his extensive network of clean energy contacts in industry and government, as well as a deep knowledge of key services and technologies in energy efficiency, and in renewable/clean energy supply technologies. He specializes in finding practical and cost-effective solutions and using streamlined business case analysis in energy management planning to save time and money identifying and implementing effective strategies to save money and reduce environmental impacts from energy waste. He has been closely involved in and continues to advise on the software capacity and user interface for CircuitMeter, an important energy metering tool that Greenplanet Energy Analytics supports. Rob is also a Project Manager for Three Nations Energy. He works closely with the 3NE Board of Directors and other key contacts to initiate and manage clean energy projects in the community, such as the 3NE Solar Farm and the 3NE Wood Fuel Business. Rob Macintosh has been a leader in the growth and development of Canada's clean energy and sustainability sector for the past 32 years, working at the interface of energy policy, energy efficiency and renewables, clean technology innovation, and environmental management. He has 25 years of successful management and consulting experience in energy management and sustainability business planning with three levels of government, First Nations, NGO, and large energy and resource company clients. In 1985 Rob founded the Pembina Institute where he played a leadership role for 16 years and focused on corporate climate change policy, sustainable energy policy, carbon pricing, clean energy, and efficiency technology assessment, community energy planning, and sustainable business strategy. He played a foundational role in the Alberta Ecotrust Foundation, the Provincial Clean Air Strategic Alliance, GreenLearning Canada Foundation, and numerous other innovation initiatives. As President of Dejanira Enterprises since 1990, he has built and continues to guide a number of successful small businesses in real estate management, land development, recycling, and environmental consulting. Rob is a Partner and Senior Environmental Advisor in Gen7 Environmental Solutions - an Alberta-based environmental reclamation, environmental assessment, and project planning and construction monitoring Service Company. He holds a B.Sc.Hon. (Physical Geography and Biology) and a B.Ed. both from Queen's University.

Tim Weis

At the University of Alberta, Tim is an Industrial Professor in Mechanical Engineering and an Executive Director of Electricity Research for the Centre for Applied Business Research in Energy and the Environment. His current research is focused on renewable energy with a particular interest in wind energy and remote community wind-diesel hybrid applications. Prior to joining the University of Alberta, he spent much of his career focused the interactions of technology, policy and business for renewable energy, including working for the Pembina Institute, the Canadian Wind Energy Association and the Government of Alberta. Tim is cross-appointed to the Centre for Applied Business Research in Energy and the Environment (CABREE) in the School of Business as the Executive Director of Electricity Research, where he is working on questions around the evolution of Alberta's electricity market as it transitions off of coal to an increasing role for renewable energy, including the role for energy storage, wind energy price impacts and policy modelling. Tim has his Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Quebec and Tim's unique combination of academic leadership in both the engineering and business policy aspects of renewable energy supplies, reinforce the applied small business and community economic development capacity of Greenplanet Energy Analytics when needed. This is complimented by his experience in political and NGO spheres of electricity policy across Canada and helps us ensure more complex aspects of regulatory policy and business risk are fully considered. Tim also facilitates an important relationship with the University of Alberta that benefits both U of A students and GEA clients by linking undergrad and grad students with practical case studies for project work and thesis opportunities. Tom Marr-Laing

Tom brings to Greenplanet's clean energy work a diverse and complementary portfolio of skills and abilities. Tom plays a lead role in technology cost-benefit analysis and business planning and related development of grant applications and financing proposals for both in-house and client projects. He has decades of experience owning and managing a range of businesses, coupled with provision of consulting to businesses and non-profit organizations in the areas of business and project development, regulatory and legal engagement, governance, financing and fundraising. His work has included senior leadership in management or on the Board of a number of organizations, including the Pembina Institute, Clean Air Strategic Alliance, Beverage Container Management Board, and the Alberta Recycling Management Authority. He also has a long history in advocacy and implementation of progressive environmental policies in the areas of clean energy solutions, waste management, climate change and environmental economics. Spheres of focus have included air pollution abatement in the Alberta oilsands and electric power generation sectors, life-cycle value assessments, and utility rate-setting. Tom holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta and an ICD.D from the Haskayne School of Business. He is currently Vice-Chair of the Pembina Institute and a Director with Alberta's Beverage Container Management Board.

Will Noel

Will is a member of GEA's technical team, with a strong background in renewable energy, energy storage, and electricity market modeling. In his project work with GEA, he leverages his engineering background to support a range of activities, including technology assessments, cost-benefit and greenhouse gas mitigation analyses, and community education. During his postgraduate work at the University of Alberta, Will played a major role in the development of the Canadian Wind Turbine Database, and was the lead author in the resulting manuscript, Mapping Canada's Wind Fleet. His master's thesis, Green Hydrogen from Wind Energy for Long-Duration Energy Storage in Alberta, quantifies the potential application of using energy storage to augment variable renewable energy generation in Western Canada. Will has his M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Alberta.
