WILDFLOWERS IN CENTRAL TEXAS

The primary focus of this site is to document the wildflowers I have seen in the Williamson County area starting in 2008. It is difficult to trace the genesis of this interest, whether it was wanting to know what all the so-called weeds were in my vegetable garden or being inspired by the arboretum on the grounds of the California state capital in 2006. In early 2008 I took an informal course on native plant identification from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower center and at that point I was hooked. To some degree I wanted to understand the native plants in the area simply so I could repopulate the flower beds where I was living with native flowers, and so I began trying to understand what those might be by looking at what was growing in nearby public areas like at Lake Georgetown, Doeskin Ranch, and Walnut Creek. However, learning the different plants ultimately became the primary focus; the overgrown local deer population eats just about everything that gets planted anyway.....
