Canghu Yang

Canghu Yang Manager, Reservoir Engineering Canghu has over 30 years of experience in oil and gas field development around the world, including onshore China, UK North Sea and Offshore West Africa. Prior to joining i3, Canghu worked for Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) over 15 years as Chief Reservoir Engineer of CNRL's international division, where he was responsible for reservoir engineering technical excellence in North Sea and Offshore West Africa areas. The projects successfully sanctioned and executed under his work and leadership include Banff Chalk Reservoir Gas Injection Re-Development, Ninian Low Permeability Rannoch Development, Tiffany Skiff Reservoir Project and Baobab Deep Water Multi-Phase Horizontal Well Development. Before pursuing his career internationally, he worked for China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) over a decade in China. Canghu has a Master's degree in Geoscience from Chengdu Institute of Technology, China and a PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London, UK.

Colin Tannock

Colin has over 35 years of experience in the UK North Sea. Colin started his career at Conoco North Sea in 1978 as a development geologist and petrophysicist in their UK North Sea fields. Colin went on to become Chief Geologist at Aran Energy Exploration before joining Talisman Energy UK as Area Exploration Manager where he spent 11 years and was part of the team that discovered and appraised the Beauly oilfield, an untapped pool north of Beatrice, and the development of the Halley field for Shell's Fulmar platform. Most recently Colin was Chief of Subsurface at Iona Energy from 2011 to 2015. Prior to this Colin was the Geoscience and Exploration Manager for TAQA Bratani where he was a member of the evaluation team that successfully proposed the acquisition of Shell's Northern Fields to TAQA. Colin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Glasgow, and an MBA from the University of Strathclyde.

Ian Schafer - COO

Ian has over 20 years of diverse oil and gas engineering and operational experience. He joined i3 in 2020 through its acquisition of Toscana Energy, which he joined in 2019. Ian was a founder and VP of Engineering at Paredes Energy Corp., and prior to that Mapan Energy Ltd., a publicly traded natural gas company acquired by Tourmaline Oil Corp. in 2015. Ian has held roles of increased responsibility with various sized public and private growth companies. Ian has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Petroleum Engineering, and a Masters of Engineering in Reservoir Characterization, both from the University of Calgary.

Jason Dranchuk - CFO

Jason has over 25 years of experience working in various senior finance roles in the energy sector with considerable focus on the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Prior to joining i3 in April 2023, Jason had held Chief Financial Officer positions for over 12 years for various public Canadian listed companies including Chinook Energy Inc and Zargon Oil and Gas Ltd. He holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA, CMA) designation, and received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

John Woods - COO

John has over 35 years of experience in the UK oil industry including 14 years as a Petroleum Engineer and 21 years in Operations Management. After managing the Scott Asset for Amerada Hess (one of the largest assets in the UK North Sea), he became Production Services Director at Wood Group before leaving to become Chief Developments Officer at Ithaca Energy for 9 years, establishing and steering the operations capability from start-up to established multi-field operator. The Ithaca portfolio under his management ranged from single and multi-well new developments, established fields, and large mature late-life assets. He has developed and established engineering and operations teams in large and small companies - including operators, the service sector and non-operated joint ventures. John's strong commercial track record includes negotiating infrastructure access, asset and corporate acquisitions and operations contracts for new and existing assets. John joined i3 in May 2016.

Linda Beal

  • Grant Thornton in 2013 As a Tax Partner
Linda has over 30 years of experience advising international E&P clients and since 2016 has been a board member of numerous companies. As a director of other small cap natural resources businesses, she brings corporate governance and financial expertise and experience as Audit Committee Chair. Linda joined Grant Thornton in 2013 as a Tax Partner and was Global Leader for Energy and Natural Resources, mandated to build its global energy and natural resources capability. Previously, Linda spent 30 years at PwC and its legacy firm Price Waterhouse in Audit and Tax, 16 of them as a Partner. Launching PwC's Natural Resources Independents business in the mid-2000s, she focused on advising international E&P clients across the AIM, FTSE350, overseas listed and private sectors. Linda graduated in 1982 from the University of Nottingham with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics thereafter qualifying at Price Waterhouse as a Chartered Accountant in 1985.

Majid Shafiq - CEO

Majid has over 30 years of technical and investment banking experience focused on the global E&P sector. Majid joined the board of i3 when it listed on the AIM market in 2017. Prior to taking over as CEO, Majid spent 17 years in energy investment banking, advising on M&A and equity financing for the small to mid-cap oil and gas sector. During that time, Majid worked for Waterous and Co, Tristone Capital Ltd, FirstEnergy Capital LLP, and Argentil Capital Partners. Prior to his investment banking career, Majid worked for Mobil Oil Corporation for 13 years in various petroleum engineering and commercial roles in the UK and the Netherlands. Majid has a Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering from Manchester University, a Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University and an MBA from London Business School.

Mark Hadley

Mark has over 30 years of diverse experience as an oil and gas exploration geologist. Joining i3 via the Toscana acquisition, Mark was most recently a founder and VP Exploration at Paredes Energy. Additionally, he was the VP Exploration of Kicking Horse Energy from 2014 until its acquisition in 2015 by ORLEN Upstream Canada. Mark joined Fairborne Energy in 2002 as Manager of Geology and became VP Exploration of Contact Exploration from 2011 to 2014. Previously, he held senior geology roles at Range Petroleum, Suncor Energy, PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd. and Husky Energy. Mark has a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Western Ontario, and a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Alberta.

Neill Carson

Neill has over 32 years of management and international project experience in the oil and gas industry. In early 2004, Mr. Carson co-founded Ithaca Energy Inc. where he served as its President and a Director from April 2004 and acted as Chief Operating Officer until late 2007. While at Ithaca, Neill was responsible for asset acquisitions, all aspects of operations and safety, general corporate strategy, and the drilling of four successful oil wells. During his tenure at Ithaca, the portfolio grew to 39 MMboe of proven plus probable reserves and was on plan to deliver 8,000 boe per day of production. Neill founded Iona Energy Inc. in 2007 where he served as Chief Executive Officer until his departure in 2014 to form i3. Responsible for all aspects of corporate strategy and portfolio development, he grew Iona to 40 MMboe of 2P reserves and saw peak production of 6,700 boe/day. Prior to Ithaca Energy, Neill spent 23 years at BP Amoco and was responsible for numerous exploration, development and production projects.

Richard Ames

Richard has 35 years of broad range experience in the oil and gas industry with senior executive roles in full-cycle oil and gas exploration and production, information technology and oil and gas services. He has recently held Board and Advisory positions at Iona Energy, Accenture Russia, the Kiawah Conservancy, and DataSpace. He joined Amoco in 1981 and worked as a geologist responsible for reserves definition in several international petroleum basins including the North Sea. Richard graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, and from the University of Georgia with a Master of Science in Geology.

Ryan Heath

Ryan has over 20 years' experience in the Canadian oil and gas sector, building junior resources companies in the WCSB. Ryan joined i3 through its acquisition of Toscana Energy Income Corporation in 2020, where he was the CEO since 2019. Prior to Toscana, Ryan was VP Land & Negotiations at Paredes Energy Corporation, and throughout his career has been instrumental in the growth and development of several public and private E&P companies, including Striker Exploration Corp., Hyperion Exploration Corp., and Severo Energy Corp. Additionally, Ryan held roles of increasing Land Management and Business Development focused responsibilities with Paramount Energy Trust and NCE Petrofund Corp. Ryan graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce, specialising in Petroleum Land Management.

Sheri Barton

Sheri has over 30 years of extensive finance and administration experience in various private and public companies. She has held senior management positions relating to finance, regulatory reporting, administration, controls and reporting procedures, strategic planning, acquisitions, due diligence and business development. Prior to joining i3 Sheri held the role of International Corporate Manager at Iona Energy, working with its senior management team in the areas of finance and administration.

Stuart Mcilroy

Stuart has Oil and Gas experience gained in the UK North Sea and overseas. with key project management skills, considered a specialist with over 30 years' experience in a variety of Oil and Gas related roles. Following the completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship Stuart worked in South Africa on a variety of large construction projects before returning to the UK in 1987. Stuart went on to work on North Sea major Offshore Construction projects including the Brae B Hook Up and Shell's Brent Field Long Term Field Development Project. Joining Petro-Canada in 2003 Stuart became the HSEQ Manager for UK and Northeast Europe Operated and Non operated assets, in 2010 Stuart was seconded to Petro-Canada Norway for 1 year to manage the HSE aspects associated with company Drilling Operations. Stuart Joined AGR as HSEQ Manager in June 2011 primarily to support the Sea Lion Drilling Project in the Falkland Islands on behalf of Rockhopper Oil and Gas before joining Centrica as Wells Global HSEQ Manager in January 2012 and was responsible for overseeing the HSEQ requirements for supporting Wells Operations in the UK, North- east Europe and Trinidad and Tobago. Stuart has supported i3 since 2017 with responsibility for development and maintenance of the Company Integrated Management System(IMS) and the HSE regulatory requirements associated with company operations in the UK. Stuart is a Chartered Health and Safety Professional and holds a Masters Degree in Occupational Safety and Health from the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.

Tim Stephenson

Tim has over 15 years of capital markets experience. His focus has been on oil & gas, predominantly as an investment banker and equity research analyst. Prior to joining i3, Tim has held the roles of Manager of Corporate Development at Razor Energy, founding partner and Principal of Energy Investment Banking at Eight Capital, and the Director of Energy Investment Banking at Dundee Securities, prior to which he had five years with Hesperian Capital Management and the NORREP Group of Funds as an equity research analyst. Tim has an undergraduate degree from the University of King's College and a Masters degree from the University of Calgary.
