KH MANAGEMENT - Key Persons

Dr. Donald R. Kahn

The late Dr. Donald R. Kahn had a long and distinguished career as a beloved physician, skilled surgeon, and renowned scientist; however, he also will be remembered for his keen interest, vision and passion for real estate development and management. While still active in the practice of medicine and even after his retirement, he developed and invested in a substantial number of residential and commercial real estate properties in Madison, Wisconsin and Birmingham, Alabama. Having grown up in Birmingham, Dr. Kahn valued his southern heritage and his hometown. Upon returning to Birmingham in 1982 from serving as the chairman of cardiac surgery at the University of Michigan and then as chairman of cardio-thorasic surgery and heading the cardiac transplant program at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Kahn started the heart transplant program and practiced cardiac surgery at Baptist Princeton. He also was also able to fulfill his dream of owning and developing both residential and commercial properties in areas of the city and surrounding suburbs that held meaning for him as a young boy. The historic properties that he amassed in Five Points South, on the Southside of Birmingham and in Mountain Brook are located in sought after locations and reflect his understanding of the real estate market and his vision of what these properties and areas would become. Today, these properties, which comprise Kahn Holdings, LLC include residential and commercial properties at The Dulion, The LaSalle, and the Sheraton Apartments, and over 50 commercial spaces in Pickwick Place and English Village.
