Mary Moorman (née Manouchehri) was born and raised in Southern California. She attended California State University, Long Beach where in 2008 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies (with an emphasis in Language and Literacy) and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Following graduation, Mary served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines from 2008-2010. There, she worked as a Teacher Trainer, collaborating alongside Filipino counterparts to improve teaching practices in English classes. In 2011, Mary was accepted into the Peace Corps Fellows Program at Columbia University, Teachers College where she obtained a Master of Arts degree in Intellectual Disability/Autism. Concurrent with her graduate studies, Mary was also a Special Education teacher in an inclusive fifth grade classroom at P.S. 503 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
