Carol Joan McCowan

Carol Joan McCowan, 85, died peacefully in Olympia, WA at St. Peter's Hospital on January 1, 2024. She has passed into eternity to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born April 3, 1938, in Puyallup, WA to Gustaf M. Sorensen and Alma A. (Johnson) Sorensen. Carol grew up on the family farm in Graham, WA. She attended Bethel High School, where she received several awards including perfect attendance for her entire high school career. She moved to the Montesano, WA area with her first husband Ernie Olden in 1967 and was part of the Montesano community for over 40 years. In 1973, Carol became the first women branch manager for the Capital Saving and Loan Association, which at the time was Washington's largest chartered savings and loan association. She went on to be an escrow officer for Pacific Title Company from 1978 until she retired in 2003. In 1984, Carol married the love of her life, Lavern McCowan. They both enjoyed camping at the beach, spending time with friends and family, traveling, serving at the local Moose lodge, where she served in many officer capacities, including the Women's Regent. Carol's husband Lavern, her mother, her father, and her son Tim Olden preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons Kevin Olden (Mary Jo) of Adrian, MI; and Mike Olden (Kelly) of Tumwater, WA; her Sister, Vicki Eastburn of Spanaway; brother Neal Sorensen of Renton, WA; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Details for her memorial service are to be determined, and will be announced later on. Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell's Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington.

She was the oldest of 10 children: seven brothers an... Read More Irene Campos of Aberdeen passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on January 15th, 2024. Irene was born in Aberdeen to the parents of Edward and Myrtle Broten on June 5, 1938. She was the oldest of 10 children: seven brothers and two sisters. She attended school in Aberdeen. In 1954, she met the love of her life, Ralph E Campos, of El Paso, Texas. They were married and together raised 7 children; 5 sons and 2 daughters: Debra, Douglas, Darrel, Daniel, Gregory, Lori and Jayson. Irene had 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, whom she loved and cared for deeply. While raising her children, Irene worked on the harbor as a homecare aid for seniors. In her spare time, when not cooking for a small army, Irene liked to sew and crochet, garden, read her bible and lots of other books of interest. She enjoyed watching her kids play sports and taking summer road trips with family and friends. She was very active in her church and loved spending time with her brothers and sisters in Christ. She is reunited with her husband and two sons, Darrel and Gregory and a grandson, Cruise. A celebration of life will take place at the Hoquiam Elks on a date TBD for family and close friends.

Read More James ‘Jim' Louis Allen, 94, former Mayor of Milton, WA and Mechanical Engineer for Allen & Associates Engineering, died Friday, January 26, 2024 at Grays Harbor Health & Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen, WA. Jim was born on December 3, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to Vincent and Mary (Norton) Allen. He grew up in Barberton, Ohio where he graduated high school. He joined the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA. During this time, he met Mary Anne Harnisch and they married on June 5, 1953, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Lakewood, WA. Mary preceded Jim in death October 28, 2011 in Edgewood, WA. Jim was honorably discharged from the Army on July 23, 1958 and returned to Ohio where he attended Ohio State University. Jim continued his studies at the University of Washington and later received his Engineering License. In 1960, Jim and his family moved to Milton, WA. Jim worked for Paccar in Kent, WA in the early 60's. Then he went to work for Star Iron and Steel in the late 60's as a designer. In the 70's he worked his way up to Vice President of the company. In 1975 Jim's vision and ambition led him to starting his own company, Allen & Associates Engineering Consultants. Jim was a consultant on loading
