Old Devil Cleaner and Degreaser was developed by Cal and Bob one night while discussing sales at the gun shows of Van's Instant Gun Blue, of which they were Gun Show Distributors. With both being gunsmiths, they were not quite satisfied with the "one type fits all" cleaners that were available for preparing metal for bluing. There are numerous types of cleaners and degreasers out there, some good, some barely adequate. They decided that with a quality product like Van's, they needed to develop a quality cleaner degreaser to go along with it rather than letting our customers grab something from the shelf that may or may not give optimum results on their project. After working with several different formulas, many tests done together and separately. Bob conducted a series of bench test using the degreaser on barrels of different manufacturers and some of unknown manufacturers. The two compared the results of Bob's bench test.
