Aditya Kathpalia

Aditya is leading the Orbit Startups program by SOSV in the India and MENA region. He has been an active evangelist of entrepreneurship and innovation programs for more than 7 years, in his previous role he supported entrepreneurs as the Ecosystem & Growth initiatives Lead at Chiratae Ventures where he was responsible for the launch of Sonic program, an industry first seed investment initiative and multiple seed programs while managing the overall community of portfolio companies, LPs and ecosystem partners. Over the last year, he started engaging with startups in the MENA region through Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority as an Innovation Consultant for their Anjal Z program. Earlier, as part of the revenue strategy team at YourStory Media, he led innovation programs, while managing key corporate and investor relations. He worked with more than 20 corporate innovation programs during his tenure. Over the many years he has advised and supported some of the firms like Shell India, Reliance Jio, Target India, Maersk GSC, NetApp India, Intel India, Google Cloud, Amazon AWS, YES Bank and Axis Bank with their initiatives for startups across Energy, FinTech, Enterprise SaaS, Health and Hardware tech sectors. Aditya holds a computer science engineering degree and got exposed to technology and coding at an early age. He is a track certified race car driver and is known for his enthusiasm for traveling and networking.

Alan Clayton

Alex Kopelyan

As Senior Director and Partner at IndieBio, Alex is responsible for managing all of the day-to-day operations associated with the program, demo day, and the alumni network. He works closely with teams during the program on customer discovery and sales, and with investors, press, and partners to build and sustain the IndieBio ecosystem. Alex comes from a clinical background, having earned a PharmD from the University of Iowa. He has a wide range of experience, which spans global health regulations, consumer health and behavior change design, building social impact partnerships, running large events, and one-on-one patient care.

Alexander Hall-Daniels

Alex joined SOSV in 2018 at the London-based life science program RebelBio and is now the program associate at IndieBio NY. Alex got his entrepreneurial start in 2016 at a boutique business consultancy startup in Philadelphia. In 2017, he joined Edelman London as the account executive at their pharmaceutical division, working alongside GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca. Alex holds a BS in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology from Imperial College London. He completed his Joint Honors in Business Management at Imperial Business School.

Andrew Gollach

Andy is a Principal at HAX where he runs investment operations for companies entering the HAX program. He also works closely with companies after investment, helping them de-risk their technology, develop scalable go-to-market strategies, and secure additional funding. Andy has over 10 years of technical and operational experience in renewable fuels and traditional oil and gas industries, where he worked as an engineer in nine different countries. He led a team on the deployment of a first-of-its-kind low carbon fuels facility while at LanzaTech which went public in 2023 and contributed to the operations of many more large CAPEX projects. Andy holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University.

Ara Varma

Ara is an Associate for SOSV working with the HAX team. She manages inbound deal flow for HAX's pre-seed investments and conducts due diligence for seed to series B follow-on investments from SOSV's core and growth funds. Prior to joining SOSV, she worked for generalist VCs in the US and the UK. She also spent time working in the climate industry performing lab research, working with non-profits, and state government in her home state of Virginia. Aris Yuan

Aris Yuan joined SOSV as an Operations Specialist at Orbit Startups where she maintains daily operations in the Shanghai office. Before joining Orbit Startups, Aris was a market specialist in a small venture capital company, which was also a start-up company called QTIN. In QTIN, she accumulated extensive investor and start-up development knowledge and experience in the marketing field. After QTIN, she took charge of office administration for 4 years in LVMH P&C and gained valuable experience in operations and facility management. Aris graduated from Shanghai Finance University with a degree in International Finance in 2015.

Arvind Gupta

Arvind is Venture Advisor at SOSV and a Partner at Mayfield. Arvind joined SOSV in 2013 and led the team that founded IndieBio San Francisco in 2015. His previous experience spans market trading, product design and strategy, and application development. He is a regular speaker at TEDx, TechCrunch Disrupt, Slush, Startup Iceland, and SFMoMA among others. His writing appears in Nature, Rotman, Forbes, and Design Observer. Most recently, Arvind co-authored (along with Po Bronson, General Partner and Managing Director, IndieBio) Decoding the World: A Roadmap for the Questioner. Arvind received his BS in Genetic Engineering from UCSB and studied Industrial Design at SFSU. He is married with two daughters. He is 2016 world champion in No Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, has climbed El Capitan and other big walls, and was a BASE Jumper and big wave surfer. He currently trains in MMA and BJJ.

Bethany Schwartz

Bethany supports innovation by coordinating all planning and delivery of the program at IndieBio NY. She is also involved in developing communities and a global network for early-stage life sciences entrepreneurship. Prior to joining SOSV, Bethany spent two years at Success Academy Charter Schools where she developed science curriculum. She was focused on streamlining the program across disciplines and fostering student and teacher engagement in STEM. Bethany grew up in the Philadelphia area. Prior to pursuing her degree, she was a professional ballet dancer. She graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences. Bethany has always been passionate about how scientific innovation can improve lives. In her free time, she enjoys staying active, cooking, and reading.

Bill Liao

Bill is General Partner at SOSV, supporting, mentoring, and investing in companies and startups at all stages of growth. Bill founded SOSV's life sciences practice in Europe, running the first complete life sciences startup development on Earth in Cork, Ireland-SynBioaxlr8r (later IndieBioEU Cork and then RebelBio at Imperial College London), which focused on entrepreneurs building technologies in or around the field of synthetic biology. Bill's investments at SOSV include Perfect Day, Synthace, CyGenica, Hyasynth, AlgiKnit, Carverr, MavenHut, Silicon Republic, Restored Hearing, and Storyful (acquired by NEWS Corporation). Bill is also the lead investment partner on SOSV II (Ireland Fund) and is responsible for sourcing and managing investments for that fund with the Irish government. Bill brings a wealth of experiences to SOSV, both in the public and private sectors. A co-founder of CoderDojo, a free global network formed to assist young people with learning computer programming, Bill also co-founded XING, a pioneering enterprise social networking platform. Brad Higgins

He is also an active participant in the alternative-energy debate, speaking at the Climate Institute forum held as part of the UN-sponsored Climate Change conference in Cancun in 2010. Brad holds an AB and JD from Columbia University. Prior to SOSV, Brad served as Assistant Secretary of State for Resource Management and Chief Financial Officer to the US Department of State. There, he oversaw a $34 billion budget and directed the Department's strategic and performance planning efforts. Brad has also worked as the Chairman of the Audit Committee to the Organization of American States (OAS) and as the senior advisor to the US Ambassador. Prior to his Washington, DC responsibilities, he served two tours in Iraq, first in 2004 as the CFO to the Coalition Provisional Authority and then as the Director of Planning to the US Mission's reconstruction management office in Baghdad. He returned to Iraq in 2005 as a senior advisor to the US Ambassador, setting up and serving as the first director of Strategic Performance and Assessment office for the US Mission. Prior to his government service, Brad spent more than 20 years on Wall Street, first as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and CS First Boston and later working in asset management for Pimco and Bear Stearns Asset Management. Brian Murphy - CFO

As Finance Director at SOSV, Brian oversees the finance team in Cork and is responsible for day-to-day management and execution of all financial, compliance, and tax affairs for SOSV. This includes both internal corporate accounting for SOSV's global operations and all reporting to SOSV LPs. In addition, he actively mentors hundreds of SOSV companies on financial controls, financial modelling and planning, and reporting. Brian has extensive international experience in corporate finance, planning, and accounting with companies ranging from Global Banking Institutions (HBOS PLC) to Multinational Construction Conglomerates (Balfour Beatty PLC) to an Irish based SME Automotive Company (AVIS Johnston & Perrott Ltd). He holds a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University College Cork, a Masters in Business from the Cork Institute of Technology, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

Carmelo Cintrón

Ching-Ping Lin

Ching-Ping Lin is the Chief Operating Officer of SOSV's Orbit Startups program. Prior to SOSV, Ching-Ping built the first operations and HR team at Dragon Aviation Leasing, a joint venture between China Aviation Supplies and Aercap, and held roles at Amazon.com, McKesson, successfully exited startups Planetall.com and HPR Inc., and early free email startup Freemark Communications. A health informaticist and qualitative researcher by training, she has built digital health systems in rural communities in Uganda, China, and the United States serving the health needs of under-resourced populations. Born and raised in the US, Ching-Ping has lived abroad for 8 years in Beijing, Taipei, and Shanghai. She has a BA in computer science and classics from Bowdoin College, a Ph.D. in biomedical informatics from the University of Washington School of Medicine, and was a post-doctoral fellow at Peking University in global health. Ching-Ping is an International Coaching Federation Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with a passion for supporting female entrepreneurs and academics.

Chris Lewis

He started his career as an educator, where he inspired students and transformed music programs in both the public and private sectors. His extensive experience as both a musician and educator has allowed him to teach and perform all around the world. Previously, Claire worked with a hedge fund as a trading associate, conducting the analysis and supporting the trades. She holds a bachelor degree in quantitative finance from National Tsing Hua University and a master's degree from Foster School of Business at the University of Washington.

Cyril Ebersweiler

Cyril is a General Partner at SOSV and the founder and co-Managing Director of HAX. He is an experienced investor in deep tech (250+) and has invested globally. Daniel Kavanagh

Duncan Turner

She served clients across the automative and consumer business industry with various solutions including market entry analysis, growth strategy, supply chain network planning. Hugh Bowen

Hugh Bowen is an Associate working with SOSV's portfolio in Europe. He works with startups across industries including some of the former RebelBio companies in the US and all IndieBio EU companies. Hugh provides support for follow-on investment and continuous development of SOSV's global ecosystem of founders, partners, and investors. In addition to working with existing programme investments, Hugh is researching and sourcing potential opportunities in the emerging Quantum Software vertical. Hugh also participates in relevant IC meetings. Prior to joining SOSV, Hugh worked as a data consultant for Kubrick Group, Europe's fastest growing private company. As a Data Product Consultant, Hugh worked with clients connecting technical and business development teams to establish effective data centric projects. Hugh has a mixture of technical and financial experience. He holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of St Andrews.

Ian Koss

Ian is the Lead Software Developer at SOSV, and as such is in charge of designing and developing tools to direct the tremendous flow of information that is generated inside this complex organization. Before joining SOSV, Ian was the VP of Engineering at FracTEL, where he worked on guiding advanced VOIP products from concept to release, along with creating back-office solutions to manage the intricate and highly regulated operations of a telecom provider. In addition to his Masters in Computer Science from the Florida Institute of Technology, Ian has received a broad education from foolhardy enterprises like starting an internet-enabled music magazine in 1991 and joining a roving band of busking miscreants to sing songs about Star Wars and army ants.
