Mark has nearly 30 years professional experience of working on sustainable transport and cycling. He has worked for Transport Initiatives, a small transport consultancy specialising in work on walking and cycling for councils and larger consultancies, since 2005. He has wide-ranging experience of planning for cycling and has worked extensively on detailed audits of cycle networks and cycle parking in West Sussex, London and the rest of the UK. In 2014 he was a member of the consortium which carried out the ground-breaking International Cycling Infrastructure Best Practice Study for TfL, taking part with Phil Jones in site visits to look at cycling in Washington DC and New York City. Mark is a member of the Sustainable Transport panel of CIHT (the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation) and represented it on the stakeholder board for the DfT's National Cycling & Walking Investment Plan. In the late 1990s when working for Sustrans, Mark managed the design and construction of the Centurion Way north of Chichester, working closely with WSCC. More recently he has carried out cycle studies of Horsham and Haywards Heath. In a voluntary capacity, Mark is an elected community representative on Brighton & Hove City Council's Transport Partnership and sits on the council's Access Fund (formerly LSTF) board which coordinated the award-winning Lewes Road bus and cycle project.
