Adam is in ter ested in how things work, how to build things, and how to make sure hu mans don't use our ex tra or di nary ca pac i ties to kill our selves and wipe out civ i liza tion. Deeply cu ri ous and ad ven tur ous, he has lived in 4 coun tries and by now speaks sev eral lan guages poorly and none per fectly. He launched his first web site while in high school around the year 2000 for his pho tog ra phy, and has been build ing web sites for var i ous pur poses ever since. His aca d e mic train ing fo cused largely on physics, bring ing him to CERN, where he worked on the early years of data analy sis at the Large Hadron Col lider for his P.h.D. the sis. In 2012, he moved to Berlin, and tried his hand at pro fes sional pho tog ra phy once again, only to re al ize that it should re main a hobby (but there are great sto ries to tell here, of course). Adam's in ter ests in pol i tics, so cial jus tice, and tech nol ogy dove tailed into him be com ing the Chief Tech nol ogy Of fi cer of Kiron Open Higher Ed u ca tion, a so cial startup ded i cated to help ing refugees gain ac cess to Higher Ed u ca tion. Adam has been at CODE full-time since 2018, and is cur rently fo cus ing on the first year of stud ies, as well as ad vanced top ics in clud ing Cloud Com put ing and Con tin u ous De liv ery. His cur rent re search in ter ests lie in the learn ing sci ences.

Flo ren cia is fas ci nated about na ture, music, cod ing and learn ing new things.
She is trained as a physi cist with an in ter dis ci pli nary back ground that in cludes top ics such as quan tum op tics, cell me tab o lism and an i mal vo cal iza tions. The link among those sub jects? The art of de riv ing knowl edge from data. Re gard less of the ori gin of the data - whether it comes from an ex per i ment with en tan gled pho tons, the pro duc tion of ATP or the singing of a whale at sea - an a lyz ing data can bring enor mous in sights.
Flo ren cia holds a PhD from the In ter na tional Max Planck Re search School for Physics of Bi o log i cal and Com plex Sys tems and since 2019 is a soft ware en gi neer ing lec turer at CODE.

Se bas t ian is a quirky lo gi cian who loves to twist your ar gu ments until they fall apart. His areas of spe cial i sa tion are phi los o phy of lan guage, meta physics and the phi los o phy of (dig i tal) tech nolo gies, even though he some times se cretly en joys ex is ten tial ist lit er a ture and Scan di na vian art movies.
Be fore com ing to CODE, he has been proof ing the ex is tence of uni corns in his PhD on ‘Kripke's Meta physics of Pos si ble Worlds' and ex per i ment ing with var i ous teach ing for mats at the Uni ver si ties of Augs burg and Bam berg. His ha bil i ta tion pro ject fo cusses on the na ture of Ar ti fi cial In tel li gence and all re lated philo soph i cal con cepts.
Se bas t ian is the only pro gram mer at CODE that does not feel em bar rassed by using PHP, but he also knows how to train a neural net work in Python. Even more than proper cod ing, he wants to un der stand how tech nol ogy in flu ences our so ci ety and our human na ture, how hu mans and com put ers think - about each other and about them selves, and what it means to act re spon si bly and ac cord ing to our think ing.
He joined CODE first and fore most be cause he wants to learn more about that to gether with you. He is quite pas sion ate about shar ing his knowl edge and ex pe ri ences, and if you want to know more about his work, he some times even en joys just hav ing a cof fee with you.

I am also con stantly in ves ti gat ing the pos si bil ity of cre at ing al ter na tive IT in fra struc tures that would allow users to be in de pen dent from larger tech nol ogy cor po ra tions.

He was awarded his PhD in 2018 at the In ter ac tive Media Lab Dres den for re search on in ter act ing with touch-sen si tive dis play walls. Be fore that, he worked for more than a decade build ing tech nol ogy-cen tered ex hibits for mu se ums at the Berlin com pa nies Archimedes Ex hi bi tions and ART+COM - first as a soft ware de vel oper, then as pro ject and team lead.
