Dr. C. Scott Harrison, a successful orthopedic surgeon and international businessman, was asked to perform spine surgery and teach higher-level orthopedic surgery skills to local medical practitioners in Malawi. Over the years, Scott and his wife, Sally, returned to Malawi on many occasions to help children with disabilities. The great physical and spiritual needs of these children weighed heavily on their hearts, and they wanted to do something more about it.

Chris Lavy is Professor of Orthopaedic and Tropical Surgery at the University of Oxford, England and also Honorary Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is a fellow of Green Templeton College, Oxford, and a trustee and council member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Chris was trained at University College London and St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, with further training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and in Oxford, Norwich, Bath, Paris, and Cape Town.
His first consultant post was at the Middlesex Hospital in London, but in 1996 he moved to Malawi to work with Christoffelblinden mission (CBM). He has worked for over 12 years in Africa. Chris had the vision for, and raised the funds for the Beit CURE orthopaedic hospitals in Malawi and Zambia, and is working on a sister hospital in Zimbabwe.
Chris is committed to surgical training and research in sub-Saharan Africa. He was a founding council member of the College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) in 1999, and continues this work with the COOL project (COSECSA Oxford Orthopaedic Link). He is a commissioner for the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery.
Chris holds BSc, MBBS and MD degrees from the University of London, an MCh from the University of Liverpool, and fellowships in surgery from COSECSA and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He was awarded an OBE by the Queen in 2007 for services to international orthopaedics.

John is a reconstructive spinal surgeon based in London and Hampshire. Most of his referral base is complex secondary and tertiary spinal problems. He is a recognised opinion leader and professional medical expert.
John is the Founder and Director of Education Worldwide of AO Spine Foundation based in Switzerland, the largest representative spinal organisation in the world with over 13,000 members. John has chaired and set up courses, lectured and organised educational networks worldwide.

Louis co-leads a design studio in London, bringing design thinking to product, brand and public services. With a background in UX design, web and application development, following his BSc in Mathematics (BSc) he went on to obtain his masters in Leadership at UCL. During his studies he completed his bachelor's dissertation using Monte Carlo simulation in R, focusing on extending the Goldfeld-Quant test across parametric and non-parametric tests for equality of variance. His master's dissertation involved qualitative research on the effectiveness of leadership development programmes in state school education in Mumbai, India.

Tim is a sustainability consultant at Kumi, where he specialises in responsible sourcing. He advises companies on how to identify and manage human rights and environmental risks in global supply chains. His clients are predominantly consumer brands operating in mineral, agricultural, textile and medical supply chains.
Prior to working at Kumi he worked at a foreign aid consultancy and also lived in Malawi for six months, supporting a charity's projects in HIV/AIDS, water and sanitation and agriculture. Tim has a Masters in Economic Anthropology and a BA in Anthropology, both from the University of Sussex, where he particularly focused on issues in the global south.
