André E. Phillips

André E. Phillips has over 35 years of experience in the college admissions profession and is currently the Director of Admissions and Recruitment at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the Office of Admissions and Recruitment at UW-Madison since 2011, Phillips first served as the Senior Associate Director. He was appointed Director in May 2017 having assumed the Interim role in August 2016. He held previous leadership appointments at the University of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology. Mr. Phillips is the chief designer of UW-Madison's local, national, and international recruitment strategy. He oversees 70 full-time team members who recruit, process, evaluate, and admit each enrolling class of freshman and transfer students. He leads an array of efforts that includes working collaboratively with campus partners, community stakeholders, on and off-campus service organizations, and a cross section of alumni volunteers and supporters on initiatives to attract high ability students from all corners of the state of Wisconsin, the country, and around the world. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Phillips attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago and received his bachelor's degree from Loyola University of Chicago. During his higher education career he has traveled extensively within the United States as well as internationally to China, Ecuador, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, in addition to several other countries.

Ann Bradshaw

Ann Bradshaw is the Division HR Manager since 2012. She manages labor relations and recruitments and selections, monitors HR policy and practices, and is the Division's Disability Representative. Ann has more than 21 years of experience in higher education as a human resources manager.

Claire Allen Thai

Claire Allen Thai serves as a Development Program Manager at the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA). She works closely with colleagues at both WFAA and DEM to ensure that the generous supporters of student scholarships have a positive stewardship experience. She is passionate about enhancing processes and implementing fresh ideas to continuously improve donor stewardship. Before her work at WFAA, Claire started her career at Kimberly-Clark Corporation in global supply chain for several years, followed by UW-Madison's Office of Compliance. She earned her Bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in International Studies and Spanish, with a certificate in Business. Outside of work, Claire enjoys singing with the Madison Chamber Choir, traveling, and trying new recipes.

Cori Splain

Cori is the Director for Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff for the Division of Enrollment Management. She serves as chief advisor to the Vice Provost and acts as a main point of contact between university leadership and other stakeholders. She provides oversight and guidance to projects of high importance as well as leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for the communications, content management, internal engagement, and partnership development of the division. She also supports the efforts of the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab as well as the Director of Development for Scholarships and Student Support. Previous to this role she worked in the Office of Student Financial Aid for almost eight years. Cori received her Master's of Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Bachelor's of Arts in Anthropology and Certificate in Gender & Women's Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is also a proud community college graduate and an advocate for non-traditional higher education pathways. Outside of work, Cori enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends. Derek Kindle

Derek Kindle is the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and provides overall leadership for the Division of Enrollment Management which comprises Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment, Student Financial Aid, Registrar and the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab. Derek has over 20 years of experience in higher education and has held roles in Admissions, Financial Aid, Bursar, and Enrollment Management. A nationally recognized higher education expert, he serves in leadership positions with organizations including the National Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), the College Board, the Higher Education Loan Coalition (HELC), and American Talent Initiative (ATI). Currently, Derek is on the faculty of the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education's Center for Enrollment Research, Policy and Practice (USC CERPP) program, co-directs the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) CHIEFS program for new and emerging enrollment leaders and served on the College Cost Transparency Initiative Taskforce. Previously, Derek was a commissioner for the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET), a member of the U.S. Department of Education's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) design team and contributed to an early Government Accountability Office study on FAFSA simplification. Prior to his current role, Derek was UW-Madison's Director of Student Financial Aid from July 2016 to March 2020 and oversaw the administration of nearly $480M in federal, state, institutional, and private aid. Derek earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees with honors at Howard University in Washington, DC.

Dr. Nicholas Hillman

Dr. Nicholas Hillman is an Associate Professor in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Education. His research focuses on the intersection of college access and finance, namely in the areas of student financial aid and state higher education finance. His research employs statistical analysis of large datasets and has been published in the field's top academic journals including Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, American Educational Research Journal, and Education Finance and Policy. Dr. Hillman's recent book (with Dr. Gary Orfield), Accountability and Opportunity in Higher Education: The Civil Rights Dimension, was published by Harvard Education Press. Dr. Hillman's research has been recognized for excellence by the Association for the Study of Higher Education and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. He is the director of the SSTAR Lab, and is a faculty affiliate in the Center for Financial Security, La Follette School of Public Affairs, and Institute for Research on Poverty.

Helen Faith

Helen Faith joined UW-Madison as the Director of the Office of Student Financial Aid in August 2020. Faith has twenty years of financial aid, student affairs, and enrollment management experience at both public and private, 2- and 4-year institutions. Her extensive knowledge of policy and regulations has led her to be a trusted resource for colleagues and policy advocates alike. She has been a key negotiator in the federal negotiated rule-making process for the U.S. Department of Education, in addition to serving on the national board of directors for the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) and as president of the regional Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. Faith is a Certified Financial Aid Administrator and has a master's degree in Educational Policy, Foundations, and Administration from Portland State University. She received her bachelor's degree with honors in Literature from the University of California-Santa Cruz. Faith is the fifth Director of Student Financial Aid at UW-Madison, and she is proud to share the University's deep and sincere commitment to equity, inclusion, and transformative social change. She believes that college affordability and access are critical factors in enabling progress toward these worthy goals, and she pursues them wholeheartedly with vision, drive, and joy.

Jennifer Blazek

Jennifer serves as the College for Rural Wisconsin Program Director for the Division of Enrollment Management. In this role, Jennifer leads UW-Madison's programming efforts under the STARS College Network designed to support college-going rates in rural communities and small towns. Representing the division's admissions, financial aid and research work in this area, Jennifer is the key liaison to community partners and stakeholders to identify and address barriers to college access. Passionate about serving rural and farm communities, Jennifer previously served as the director for UW-Madison's Farm and Industry Short Course (FISC), one of the oldest continuous programs at UW-Madison and the state's first strictly agricultural course. Prior to her work at FISC, Jennifer was an Agriculture Extension Educator for both Polk and Dane County in Wisconsin. Jennifer grew up in Wisconsin and received a M.S. in Agroecology and a M.A in Latin American Studies from UW-Madison and a B.A. in Spanish and English from UW-La Crosse. Outside of work, Jennifer is an avid classic film fan and enjoys hiking and paddleboarding around the state.

Jeremy Traska

Jeremy Traska, Director for Administration and Chief Financial Officer, has been with the Division of Enrollment Management since 2012. In his current divisional leadership role, he focuses on the strategic direction of, and leads a talented team devoted to providing, human resources, financial and various administrative support to the division. Prior to his present role, Jeremy had extensive leadership and project management experience which included serving as the Student Information System (SIS) Optimization Program manager and oversaw a major ERP upgrade (SIS 9.2/Campus Solutions). Jeremy also severed as the Assistant Registrar for Administration, Compliance and Reporting in the Office of the Registrar. He also has various campus experience ranging from working in the administration of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences to even as a campus tour guide while an undergraduate. Jeremy earned both a B.S. in Political Sciences and M.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from UW-Madison. He is a strong believer of lifelong learning which lead to the completion of an Accounting Certificate from Cornell University and a Master Certificate in Project Management from the Wisconsin School of Business.

Justin Mumford

Justin Mumford is the Deputy Director for Strategic Engagement for the Division of Enrollment Management. He leads engagement priorities and special projects that connect key internal and external stakeholders to operationalize the Division of Enrollment Management strategic plan. In this role, Justin serves as deputy to the Chief of Staff and works collaboratively to support efforts across the Office of Admissions & Recruitment, Office of Student Financial Aid, and Office of the Registrar. Justin received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management from North Carolina State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Ohio State University. He has over 10 years of experience working in Higher Education across Athletics, Student Affairs, and Enrollment Management, including 5 years working within the Office of Student Financial Aid at UW-Madison prior to his current role. Justin also served as the President of the National Student Employment Association and is passionate about creating an impact that leaves a lasting legacy within Higher Education. Kelly Layton

Kelly Layton, Divisional Financial Manager. Kelly has been with the Office of the Vice Provost since March 2019. She is the expense reimbursement auditor for the division, oversees 15 purchasing cards, and helps out with payroll. Kelly is the travel and purchasing policy contact for the division. In more recent years, she started doing some work for the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab as the Grants Administrator. Kelly has been with the University for 10 years. She previously held positions in the Department of Integrative Biology, and most recently, the Office of Admissions and Recruitment. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, twin daughters Kaylee and Lauren, and youngest daughter Makenzie.

Lindsay Broms

Lindsay Broms is the Director of Development for Scholarships and Student Support at the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA). In her role, Lindsay works with alumni, donors, and friends of the university to help increase scholarship access to deserving students attending UW-Madison. Lindsay has held different positions in the marketing and development space at WFAA since 2018, and is thrilled to be working with the office of Financial Aid and the Division of Enrollment Management since January of 2022. Lindsay is passionate about accessible higher education, as well as study abroad experiences, and is honored to be working with such incredible alumni and friends of the university on a daily basis. Prior to WFAA, Lindsay worked at Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois as their Donor Acquisition Manager where she lead several development initiatives that helped support and provide crucial services to the local Central Illinois community. Lindsay received her bachelor's degree from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and studied at the University of Limerick in Limerick, Ireland during her junior year. Lindsay will graduate with her Master's of Business Administration in May of 2023 from Marquette University. Outside of work, Lindsay is the Vice President of Madison Magnet and enjoys spending time with her husband and friends.

Mike Hollander

Mike serves as the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator within the Office of the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. In this role, he assists in operationalizing strategic priorities, facilitating collaboration, building a strong culture, and directly supporting leadership across the Division of Enrollment Management. Mike provides support to a variety of special projects that directly serve the Vice Provost of Enrollment Management and works in close collaboration across the Office of Student Financial Aid, Office of Admissions & Recruitment, Office of the Registrar, the Student Success Through Applied Research Lab as well as key stakeholders. Previous to this role, Mike worked with the Wisconsin Historical Museum as the Deputy Director. Mike earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from UW-Madison and his Master of Arts in Public History from Loyola University of Chicago. Paula Gates

Paula Gates, HR Specialist, has been with the Division of Enrollment Management (DEM) since 2011. She serves the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, providing divisional HR consultation and support in the areas of recruitment and selection, compensation and titling, performance management, and onboarding. Paula manages divisional payroll and coordinates DEM parking assignments. She is dedicated to equity, inclusion and diversity, serving on the DEM Engagement, Inclusion and Diversity (EID) team, as well as several campus HR communities of practice. Prior to this role, Paula has held several positions across campus at the departmental and administrative levels. Paula holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Edgewood College. She also is a Certified Professional (CP) through the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Sandra Hong

Scott Owczarek

Scott Owczarek serves as the University Registrar and has proudly served the university in this role for 9 years, 1 month and 6 days, to be exact (as of March 6, 2020). In this role Scott helps to oversee, develop and deliver crucial services, programs, and guidance related to student enrollment, curriculum management, classroom scheduling, and grading services. He also assists with strategically managing and supporting campus partnerships regarding enrollment management, the Student Digital Ecosystem, the Student Information System, and the Online Undergraduate Degree programs. With a strong emphasis and belief in collaboration, he supports his staff to deliver the highest quality of service to student, faculty and staff, and other campus partners in these areas as well. As a member of AACRAO, IMS Global, and many other state, national and international organizations and programs, Scott has positioned himself to be an ambassador for bettering the campus community through the services the Office of the Registrar provides. His participation and leadership within these organizations provides a broad perspective on higher education, expanded knowledge, and compassionate understanding for the effect the Office of the Registrar has on campus culture and success. Scott's role allows him to pursue his passion for higher education and connecting people to a common goal. These passions are exemplified in Scott's welcoming attitude toward new opportunities to innovatively improve his, and the office's, role on campus.
